The Lord Weird Slough Feg - The Lord Weird Slough Feg

I'm not into rap enough to include this, but Weerd Science - Friends and Nervous Breakdowns is pretty amazing.

This was difficult, and may be subject to change (after all, we all hear new music everyday), but I came up with these:

Metallica - Kill 'Em All
Megadeth - Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good
Black Sabbath - S/T
Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales
Down - NOLA
SYL - HAARHT
Motorhead - S/T
Devin Towsend - Ocean Machine
Cirith Gorgor - Onwards To The Spectral Defile
Triptykon - Eparistera Daimones

Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine
Cynic - Focus
Spiral Architect - A Sceptic's Universe
Mudvayne - L.D.50
Gordian Knot - S/T
Intronaut - Null
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Dillinger Escape Plan - Calculating Infinity
Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium
Pain of Salvation - Entropia

There have actually been a couple of really good ones in the last couple of years that could make this list (Exivious, Car Bomb, Linear Sphere all spring to mind)

And shouldn't that be Contradictions Collapse for Meshuggah?

1. Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine (perfection)
2. Star One - Space Metal (so fucking awesome)
[gap]
3. Threshold - Wounded Land (very mature, doesn't sound like their first at all)
[gap]
4. Sonata Arctica - Ecliptica (nothing groundbreaking, but very consistent and catchy)
5. Allen - Lande - The Battle (same as 4, only slightly more repetitive)

Not that every other debut album is shit, not at all, but these are the only ones that I find consistently great.

a very strong posting :D

I'd add

Hollenthon - Domvs Mvndi
Disillusion - Back to Times of Splendor (nothing but groundbreaking and earth-shattering)
Borknagar - Borknagar (one of the most underrated BM albums ever, along with
Dornenreich - Nicht um zu sterben ; amazing black metal concerning atmosphere, but you might already know it)
Path of Golconda - Destination: Downfall (proggy melodic death/thrash metal with BM influences on their first one)

oops, that was five. but a quote, so...

One minute science from Sunna is also a great debut album, kinda obscure band too.
Their second album came more then years later, and was not very good though.

They are one of those bands that I always wondered whatever happened to them! (clearly not enough to ever actually research it though)

*sings*I'm not trading, now.....

Can only name the number one debut and imo it's The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Are You Experienced?
I don't actually own a copy these days, i used to years ago. Whether one likes Hendrix or not, this lp changed things forever, just like The Beatles did.
