Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

I want to touch JP.

Awesome. Wait, doesn't everyone want to touch him - either Inappropriately, or in hopes that his skillz might rub off on them?

I don't want to touch anyone who wears such appalling shirts for fear some his taste in clothes might rub off on me.

His skills aren't that great either. I have never seen him produce a rabbit from a guitar for example, and that is the yardstick by which all guitarists should be measured.

Very, very loud siren off in the distance. Sounds like the Luftwaffe are coming or something!

 Well I think he makes good music. Not every single song is a master piece, but that's the case with anyone. They do good stuff IMO. Do I detect a hint of Petrucci-jealousy? *Oooh burn*

No, I kid. I kid.

HA, even if you kid, I am far from jealous of Petrucci. I'm more jealous of people like Justin King and Bob Zabek in terms of guitar playing ability, with which both of them destroy Petrucci.

On the topic of new Mastodon: I think it's good, but not as orgasmic as many other people seem to think. Then again, I was never too impressed with Mastodon anyway, this is likely to be their best album.

Admittedly, my opinion differs from others on a regular basis :P

They sound pretty much the same because their new singer sounds pretty much the same :P

I've only heard it once so far, and I didn't pay much attention. It's not bad though.

Mike Oldfield, Captain Beefheart and the new Mastodon album. Loving Tubular bells and Trout mask replica but Mastodon still needs some more listening.

Oh man, I've noticed his horrible shirts as well. At prog. Nation 2008, his shirt had sparkles, of glitter or something on it. It was pretty funny. And yeah, what a total loser, I've never seen him do the rabbit trick either. What a piece of shit  I love me some Petruch.

Oh man, I knew that comment would set you off  No one can deny though that Petrucci is very talented, and is very skilled technically and other wise. Man, we just don't agree on guitar players do we? First Steve Vai, and now JP

I just dont like shredders. Both Vai and Petrucci are astoundingly talented guitarists...but thats all they are is guitarists, they are not musicians to me. I compose all of my own music, drums, guitar, bass, you name it I wrote it(on my own music, again)

Vai and Petrucci blow me away in terms of out right skill. They can both play more cleanly, faster, and more complex things than I can. Do I respect them? Yes. Do I enjoy their works? Not so much.

They lack feel! A lot of people will come back and say "well Vai has a lot of feel! His stuff isnt ALL shred!"

Ok, so what, he can play slow. Still doesn't make him as good a musician as say: Dev, Mikael Akerfeldt, Steven Wilson, all of the guys from Meshuggah.

On the note of shredders though, I do enjoy Mattias IA Eklundh. Reason being? He is different. His stuff is far beyond what both Vai and Petrucci play, his style is different his sound is different. The guy is incredible and if you like guitar playing I HIGHLY suggest giving Eklundh a try.
