Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

It is as bizarre as ever.

And as the winner is announced (we all knew who would win beforehand this year), I think Mr Wogan's words ring true, "This is no longer a music contest." Next year the 43 countries shouldn't bother entering a song, they should just do a "Let's vote for our neighbours" contest since that's pretty much what it has become. Which is a shame.

And Yay for UK, Germany and Poland who share last place! :patrol:

That woman in the tight stripy top had the biggest pirate's chest I've ever seen!

Haha, yes, it's very political contest. Poland took great preparations to it - hired American (?) singer and spreaded a rumor abour her being a man. Well, didn't help - maybe rumor was weakly distributed abroad.

It's seriously bizarre - contest of cheesiest possible singers, who NEVER get famous outside their countries (there's a video of all Eurovision winners somewhere on the net - I recognized one - Celine Dion, who performed for Switzerland).

Celine, yes, she got some international viewing there. Also remember possibly the biggest international career launch from Eurovision was ABBA. It used to attract big stars (at least within their own countries, but often more internationally known ones) to compete, but that is going a long way back in time.

There was some enjoyable weirdness last night though. My daughter liked that Spanish 'chiki chiki' song. We all laughed along with the Latvian pirates. As decent pop tunes go we thought the Turkish and Greek entries were good. The Portuguese lady had a fine pair of lungs on her. Poland.. was that the big blonde lady with the impressive teeth? Azerbaijan - the screaming angel and the devil thing. Did somebody castrate that guy? He could hit some high notes.

Yup, Polish one was the woman with epic*) teeth. So there weren't any likes of last year's winner? Even totally disinterested people voted for them, just to see GWAR-like band winning such contest :)

*) yes, I know, "epic" is totally irrelevant word, but I like the way it's wrongly used all over the internet.
