Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

More Canadian metal
Mog Ruith: Catatonic Stellar Illusions. Right now the band is broken up but this is a gem

I highly recommend Massive Attack to every metalhead out there because they're not metal at all. They are triphop me thinks. I've never even considered that electronic music could be good but this band changed my mind.

THE PRESETS - Apocalypso
a very mainstream electronic/pop band from australia. the song i attatched 'my people' has been a massive radio hit surprisingly yet its so sweet sounding. the album Apocalypso is sweet and ive only listened to it once. just skip yippiyo-ay. its the only bad song on the album. best aussie mainstream music ive heard in a long time.

This is mainstream in Australia? Wow, it must be nice to have bearable songs on the radio.

Yep, The Presets are a beautiful blip on an otherwise barren radar. Hard to believe a group that cool could top the album charts!

I feel a rant coming on about how tedious much of pop music is these days.

Instead I'll listen to some Presets.

Probably all interested people know this one already, but whatever.

I dedicate this one to Biert - have a look at Meshuggah at 1990.

They were full on thrash metal back then, not a little bit of droney mindfuckery. It was all chug and Thordendal played ace fusion inspired solos, one at 5:00 is what word "EPIC" was invented for. Note nice historical details, like long haired Jens Kidman on rhythm guitar (there was no Marten yet), Fred already having his 7-string Ibanez UV (in 1990!), and bassist with shirt tucked in his pants.

And here's another funny thing - Fred Thordendal doing vocals in "Greed":

In other words, I recommend first Meshuggah's LP, "Contradictions Collapse". Last one, where you can hear acoustic guitar and which IMO has finest guitar work off all their discography. And I love that rattly bass.
