death metal bands like cannibal corpse, black metal bands like darkthrone... syl albums alien and city are overall pretty fast feeling (particularly the verse vocals in oh my fucking god)

like said the drums have a lot to do with it... if the drums are playing some 60bpm thing and the guitars are skyrocketing with some tremelo picked 240 bpm (yeah, that would be fast) the song will still more than likely feel pretty slow. how many times have you listened to a song where everything is going super crazy with really fast blast beating drums, only for the drummer to hit a quarter time bit while everything else stays the same, instantly creating a slower feel to the song, generally a little more head bobbing too :P

For me the first listen of sumeria seemed a bit unstructured and muddy (no doubt because of the radio quality) but all I had to do to hear it how it's suppose to be is turn up the volume. So fucking amazing LOUD! Im sure I'll listen to this song loads before I get the rest of the album but there's never been a Townsend song Ive gotten over by doing this so it should be the same this time. Especially because of the poor quality and that the beginning and end are cut out.
Decon will be my #1 album for a long time and ghost will be up there too I'm sure. Currently giving up weed and a serious relationship, my mind relates all too well to the chaos of Decon and mellowness of Ghost. I won't hold off from a leak but still bring on the preorder. This is a purchase worth making :)

I don't think anyone is really that worried that there won't be enough 'fast stuff' on Decon. We've seen the Dirk video.

I just noticed that Amazon has Deconstruction and Ghost up for pre-order and noticed that there are 2 versions of Deconstruction?......one for $16.49 and another for 24.99. I immediately thought the $25 was a vinyl but it says audio CD?......import version perhaps or maybe a special edition perhaps?..... :o if this has been discussed before please forgive me lol

Erm, I'm quite aware that its not SYL 2.0... the SYL references were just to show tracks that are faster than sumeria but that had a similarity (I could've said something off of physicist to be fair, maybe I should've done that), and also an attempt to show the difference between what Devin did earlier in his career with the heavier side of things and the difference that I (and other people, nonetheless) hear between that and this track off of what has been described as the heavy album of the DTP... I thought I'd also posted a cheesy "wait till you hear the rest of decon" joke about the speed thing, clearly my internet crashed at that point. ut yeah, have seen the Dirk video as has alreaqdy been said (yoweeeeee)

Deconstruction, if each song is anywhere near as good as this track, is not even remotely going to dissapoint. There's certainly a different kind of heaviness to what I've heard from Devin's heavier side before... me likey.

to be fair there isn't a release that I don't like :D

"Deconstruction by Devin Townsend & the Project"
"Ghost by Devin Townsend & the Project"

Lmao, something tells me that amazon's current decon/ghost listings are a work in progress. Though, I do wonder what would happen if i tried to preorder it through there right now. Not sure if I want to find out :| I'll just preorder it from the Hevy Devy site or however Dev and Company choose to do it.

BTW, the speed on Sumeria is awesome, the pace brings me back to Decapitated's "Post Organic" (my favorite Decapitated song), and the sonic whirlwind that an above poster mentioned is a dead-on description for it :D For now, gonna stop listening to Sumeria so it still sounds fresh when I get the whole album.

After listening to Sumeria, I think once Deconstruction makes the rounds it will cement Devin as being the Richard Wagner of metal.

Just when I thought I couldn't be more eager to get this, I find myself more eager.

I only hope that for Devin's sake, this album doesn't go right over the heads of half the people who are hearing his music for the first time... despite the heaviness and the massiveness, I think alot of the knuckle-dragging "FUUUH KIIIING' metAAAALLL!!!" crowd isn't going to get it. Their loss.

What if you 'get it' but don't like it because it's not very good? Devin's a great musician and all, but I get the feeling that Deconstruction's going to be a bit of a letdown.

First post and you choose to submit a comment you KNOW is bait for argument without the courtesy of explaining what you mean. Imagineer that!
