Though harsh on it, I actually am a fan of the Resistance. The production is lousy in certain respects, for my tastes at least, but I loved the variety of styles they covered on that record. It really felt like a tribute to all their influences coming out in one place.

I'm not really surprised the Z2 idea has been shifted from an album to TV concept. The final sections of the song Deconstruction sound like the original Ziltoid being rewound on tape with Nerd Alert soloing over it. The two albums seem to be two sides of the same coin, one metaphorical and one literal. Though I suppose that logic could be applied to all the DTP releases. I kind of figured that all Z2 would be able to do would be to swing between Ki and Decon which though potentially and probably incredible would be alot to ask of Dev right after the DTP.

I remember this when it was all just an album and maybe a 5-track bonus EP. :!: :D It's been a long journey for the chap, time for something else.

I wouldn't. No offense to Ki, but I look forward to every album Dev does a being something completely new and different... I wouldn't want to see "all" of his future material sounding like any one particular album style. But I don't think that will be anything to worry about anyway, as I think Dev himself would be miserable rehashing the same sound over and over (wasn't that one of his complaints about the SYL era?).

I know the following comment is going to get rotten tomatoes thrown at me, but I feel like I have to say it because I have seen so many heap mountains of praise on Ki: it didn't do anything for me. I tried to like it, I tried so hard to like it, I really wanted to "get it", but after listening to it about 15 times and finding myself still impatiently waiting for it to be over, I just gave up on it. I can respect it for what it is and for the talent that went into it, and I'm not trying to come across as "what is wrong with you people, this album sucked" or anything like that; Dev seemed to enjoy the experience of making it, and I am happy for him in that respect. And I don't dislike it because it's not "heavy" or "SYL enough" (I'm a big fan of ambient, contemplative "space" music)... but the only reaction most of the tracks get from me is an urge to hit the skip button.

That being said, I think alot of people are expecting Ghost to be Ki 2, but the Making Of vids on YouTube and the Feather track don't give me that impression at all, so I'm looking forward to it. And I'm looking forward to whatever comes next, because as Monty Python says, "And now for something completely different..."

At your first point - all I was trying to say is that I'm not one of those people who likes Devin's heavier material and nothing else he's ever put out. I agree with you that I wouldn't be happy if all he ever did was the exact same style, BUT, if he just mellowed out in general... I wouldn't mind that at all. Devin's always found a way to keep things fresh and interesting within his work as time goes on, and I have no doubt that he'll continue to innovate and move forward with every record he puts out. Yeah, I'd be disappointed if the heavier stuff disappeared completely, but it wouldn't leave me heartbroken because he'll find another way to continue release interesting and varied music. You disliking Ki is something I can totally understand, too, seeing as I was there for a long, long time. I even thought it sounded sterile - empty! - after hearing the the first Ghost clips on Youtube. Granted, I love it now, but I don't expect it to click with you or anyone else who doesn't care for it. It seems to be a very individual thing, but that's the beauty of all Dev's work, I suppose... and a testament to it's diversity - everyone likes something different.

This, x1000. You've proven time and time again the honesty that goes into your work; that's all I could ask for from any artist I follow. At the very least, that warrants that I at least give everything you put out a chance... even if I don't like it at first, which has happened before. I've come to love everything though, so I guess I'm just lucky in that sense.

Hi everyone,

I would like to share my opinion about Deconstruction, I personally agree some opinions concidering the fact, how difficult music it is to listen just once, you really must listen it 50 times, and after that, you still can found new things in it. This is not a bad thing at all, I really like the music, what won't "open" too fast =)).

And the main point is, I like this mad record, Love it. Again something so different and impulsive music.

Regards

I'd just like to point out that the original Ziltoid project was a webisode show and the album wasn't even an album, just a theme song. Then, it became an album. Never carve into stone the words that Devin uses to describe projects until they are recorded/produced/released. Synchestra was one 70 minute song at some point, according to Devin. And, no, Ziltoid won't be on TV unless something totally amazing happens like millions of people suddenly appreciating Devin's creative output. TV is run on money and Ziltoid is a cult project.

YouTube episodes, yes. Video podcast, yes. Broadcast television? No.

I hadn't noticed - I could hear something in the background, but my mind wasn't focusing on it. Now you've mentioned it, I went to listen specifically to that part & yep - I can hear it now! :D

I had seen mention somewhere very recently where Dev mentioned Z2 was still happening.

I think Devin said something about releasing it later in the year. Probably long enough to give Decon and Ghost time to breathe.
