I just hope the label doesn't give Dev a hard time about the album being self-indulgent or too esoteric or whatever... I can see corporate suits (even sympathetic ones) listening to this and thinking "WTF have we gotten ourselves into when we signed this guy?". Maybe he can pacify them with another catchy-riff radio-friendly Addicted-style album if they do. I'd be willing to accept alternating "this is Dev making music that pleases everybody else" albums with "this is Dev making music that is true to heart" if that's what it takes to keep the factory running. It's all good to me anyway!

Meanwhile, this is how the label can boost sales:
1. Release Decon and Ghost as planned.
2. Release vinyl versions of both.
3. Release both as 5.1 mixes on DVD, DualDisc (do they still make those?) or whatever.
4. Release the live full-length recordings of the albums that they were planning to do anyway.
5. Release Ki, Addicted, Decon, and Ghost as a signed limited box set with massively-elaborate packaging and tons of additional artwork, liner notes, an official Devin Townsend guitar pick, a bonus DVD with high-quality video of the bed tracks that were posted on YouTube etc., and a coupon for a free cheeseburger.

Ok, is it just me, or does Sumeria make people think of Love Me Tender by Armi & Danny?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA5GkLM5C7M

I kept suddenly getting that ridiculous song stuck in my head, and it took me a while to figure out what was causing it. It's the part at 4:20 in Sumeria. They don't sound that similar, but some reason my brain makes the connection.

P.S. I love that part of the song.

Do you have any idea how much money that would cost them, and how much of a risk it would be?

Well, considering that I was talking about giving away free cheeseburgers, there's a good chance I wasn't being entirely serious... :?

I think they should. They need to do a deal with Burger King, The BK Decon Whopper (two all beef patties, two slices of cheese, pickles, onions and special Dev-Sauce on a sesame seed bun), and all the boxsets come with a free burger voucher, I'd shit myself if this happened. Though, I'm such a damn nerd I'd probably save the voucher for collectors sake. This is my ultimate fantasy.

The part of Deconstruction at 6:16 is clearly an homage to Meshuggah.
The solo, the bassline, the tone, everything.
Also, have a look at Decon's cover art. Then look at the cover of Meshuggah's "Chaosphere". Notice anything similar?
I think it's awesome that Devin respects Meshuggah. They are my favorite extreme metal band.

WOW WTF is that place? Looks like an abattoir designed by Front Line Assembly. The one we use looks nothing like that. Not nearly as high tech and much more blood everywhere. Think Rob Zombie grand guignol. Huge barrels of oragns and heaps of hides and stuff all over the place. But out of the other end comes meat, glorious meat!

sorry, bit off topic here.

You are aware, that, that solo is played by Fredrik Thordendal from Meshuggah? :)
