HELL YEAH!

TONIGHT!!!!!

That fucking rocked! Awesome show.

The venue was packed (sold out) and the crowd was absolutely loving the whole thing which gave the place a really good vibe.

Highlights
- Numbered! Man I LOVED it!
- Ki (just awesome)
- Life
- Bend it like Bender! was just a whole lot of fun.

Lowlights
- None really. The queue to get some merch was just ridiculous and because I had a good spot on a step (yes, gigs suck for short people) I couldn't give it up. Therefore no shirt

Dev - you are a fantastic performer and put on a great show. Big thanks to the rest of the band too (RVP is one mean drummer and Beav wasn't too bad on the vocals!)

not much of a review but they were my highlights.

I know this will probably be slammed by everyone here but I was dissapointed with the show in some respects.
For one the front of house mix was quite bad. 
Devin's vocal wasn't eq'd properly and often it was ear piercing. (not ear piercing in a good way) 
There was too much high end in the whole mix in general, is devin's mixer partially deaf nowdays?
Others have commented that Brisbane and Sydney shows were way too loud as well so it seems there's a pattern forming here.

2. The comedy was good and that's one of the best things about Devin but it became a little grating after a while. 
I was expecting him to be a little more professional.  

3. The ending of ki with everything but devin's guitar and voice being played back off a laptop sounded very wrong. The vocals were excruciatingly loud in that section.

4. The bass player singing the start of bend it like bender was terrible. Please don't have him sing again.

5. The set didn't seem to be paced particularly well. There was quite a lull at the 3/4 mark of the show. 

Not to fear though. There were many great moments. Earth day was brilliant. Life was just wonderful. I'm very glad you finally came here to play for us dev! Hopefully you'll sort through some of these issues.

Just got back from the melbourne show. Loved it.
Those complaints above are pretty silly. If Devin wasn't being a comedian, I wouldn't enjoy myself nearly as much.

I've been to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne... and the only thing I agree with in terms of complaints, is that the vocals during Ki are too loud.
I can not believe how quiet the crowd has been at all three shows during Ki (in a good way!!). That song grabs peoples attention like nothing I've ever seen before. EVERYONE just stands there absorbing it. Beautiful.

The Ziltoid banter is awesome. Everyone loves it (except for when he's hosting his radio station. heh).

I thought Beav's vocals were good. I complimented him on them before the show, in fact. Townsend's vocals were SPOT ON. Perfect. Ridiculous.
The vibe I'm getting from these shows is really cool... infectious. I've had a couple of amazing nights out because I've been so happy after the show... Just chillin with strangers in cities I've never been to. Been awesome.

Secondly, it was really great to see you are a total dude, thanks for takin the time for all those other peeps too, knowing that you cruising round like a madman, that guy with the City comment and the headphones was also supreme, the doob monster hahahaha

To Brian and Ryan and Mark, dudes, absolutely incredible stuff, all of it, couldnt believe how much of ziltoid emerged, crazy stuff..............Mark, what other stuff have u played for, cause those chops were seriously rippin, hope to get you (and the Dev) one of them donut pickups in the near future......... Might be able to make a bass one? But not yet, head spinning enough after tonight.

Hope you guys have a great tour / trip of Aus, thanks again for makin it down here! The previous comments others have posted about loudness, bad vocals on bend it like bender, WHICH WERE FUCKIN GREAT THANKS RYAN!!!!!!! too much funny banter bla bla BLA bullshit, bla di bla (kinda sounds like ziltoid comin out right?) cram my nuts down your throat cause theyre so filled with my own sense of over-importance...

1. The comedy / humor is fantastic!! Pls dont tone it down.... - losing it laughing one moment to getting my face melted off in sound the next!
2. As you can tell by that, I enjoyed the fact that it was...well.....LOUD! Sure some the eq levels were a bit off, but, as expressed above - what can you do with what you simply have to DEAL with. Again...pls dont turn it down!!!!
3. You all looked like you were really enjoying yourselves, so as to being professional, well...........whoever didnt think those shows professional might need to go to a Birtney Lipsyncing concert?

Dev, also, ur new guitar just kicks some supreme ass.........

I freaking loved the show, Devin, and this is coming from a relatively new fan! I was wearing hearing protection and it wasn't too loud or too ear-piercing for me. However, the bass was definitely way too loud. Like universeinaball said, Dev's vocals were too loud during the crescendo in Ki. Regarding Devin being a goof, I love it

I screamed "Cryptic Coroner!!" once but my voice was shot so I don't think anyone made anything out of it

I thought having the bassist sing Bend it Like Bender was interesting. That was the PERFECT closer, in my opinion. Also, I would've liked another Ki song in the first hour. The set was a bit too heavy. I thought a breather after Kingdom would've been nice. I do understand that you guys had plenty of songs to learn though.

Oh one last thing, during Numbered's chorus, Devin was harmonising to Anneke's vocals and I thought it sounded kind of awkward. Not sure if it was just me though.

First of all, Ryan, Beav and Dave, were amazing, they held the band together so well. Ryan is a machine, props to him for playing everything he did.

Second of all, Best stage presence I have ever seen, Devin was so interactive and appreciative of his fans. He was an amazing entertainer.

Being on the fence I had no problem with sound, to me it sounded great, although at times Dev's vocals were a bit quiet.

All in all, an amazing show.

(If Dev reads this, I forgot to say thanks at the Melbourne signing, I think. So thanks for taking your time to talk and listen to just another fan(whose not a stalker))

I'm not trying to start an argument or anything coz I'm not on here enough to carry one out!

But, I thought all those complaints about the melbourne show were ridiculous.

What kind of expectations did you have? Mine were blown away and this was by far one of the best shows I've ever seen, and that has nothing to do with wanting to support the dev, it was just truly incredible.

Let the bass player sing, it was funny and dev's voice was shot. Let dev say his stupid comedy things, because they are hilarious and ridiculous and wonderful and I wouldn't be as much a fan if he didn't goof around like that, I love it. "National Geographic!" Come on!!

I thought the set was perfect, I couldn't have picked a better one! And if you found a lull at 3/4 of the show that seems a pretty appropriate time for a lull! Just enjoy it man!

AND, me and my friends, most of who've had a lot to do with sound production, were blown away with the mix. I can't believe the overdubs mixed in that well, and I can't believe that wasn't you normal sound guy. There was that one bass hum thing in Seventh Wave but it was soon rectified after dev pointed it out to the sound guy. Stuff like that happens at every show, particularly one when the band is pushing the boundaries of the technology as hard as dtp.

Anyway, each to his own I guess but gawd damn I thought it was a great show and certainly nothing to complain about.

I guess you're only trying to help which is cool.. I just thought it was so good.

i agree with a lot of universeinaball's comments except the comedy stuff. the audience where i was seemed to really like it as well. after listening to Dev for 11 years I would be shocked to see him NOT crack a joke or fart at a gig.

my main gripes are average sound, Ki and odd setlist. The early albums were very under-represented considering they played for 2 hours. i saw Morbid Angel at the same venue last year and the sound was great, so it was a soundman issue IMHO.

other than than it was a great show! Highlights for me where KIngdom, Truth, Deadhead, Seventh Wave, Life, Earth Day, Numbered, Color Your World/Greys. So yeah, most of the show rocked my world. Really looking forward to the next tour!

I really enjoyed the show, but I have to concur that it was too loud/not mixed properly. Which is a real shame, because the guys were spot on, and I would've liked to have been able to hear some of the nuances in the songs as well as Dev's banter.
