My only concern based on what I've heard so far (and this goes for a lot of the other tracks as well), is that I wish Dev had handled a little bit more of the lead vocal duties himself. I love Anneke's voice and I'm glad she's on the CD, I just want it to seem like I'm listening to a Devin Townsend CD with guest vocals from Anneke van Giersbergen, and not the other way around. It's not that big of a deal though, I know I'm going to love the CD regardless.

That's funny, listening to the Addicted and Universe In A Ball tracks I was thinking "so, where's Anneke?" (just a few backing vocals, no major parts in those songs). I think it'll turn out to be a nice balance anyway.

They have a few dates listed now on ticketmaster. You have to look up Between the Buried and Me and look for the dates in January.

MySpace Denies New Townsend Song

ccording to an update on his official twitter account, Devin Townsend recently tried to post a new song to The Devin Townsend Project's MySpace.

That's when things got interesting. The singer-slash-guitarist's upload failed when MySpace prompted him to say that EMI owned the copyright, a fact the singer has reportedly disputed.

Nonetheless, the song, presumably a cut off of his upcoming release Addicted, should be available in some capacity in the near future.

The album's title track was posted three weeks ago on NoiseCreep.com.

The second album in a cycle of four, Addicted is due out on November 17th.

Oh God! This is disgusting.

There there, Islands. I've been explaining the business side of things to people for a good... 10 years now. In that time, all of one person has hedged on an earlier declaration of hardship and made it work. The rest get angry that I presume to pretend to understand financial hardship (that poor decision on my part being the result of living off eggs and Ramen for a month so I can make rent) or question how I could possibly know anything about the business (which is an interesting theory given how many articles there are available on that very subject. Even if I didn't work with some bands when they needed the help or hang with crew+bandmembers when I went out of town and knew noone else, I can still read.)

Not sure if this has been brought up:

Musically, Addicted is along the lines of the big, wall of sound hard rock / heavy metal of Ocean Machine and Accelerated Evolution (even Physicist at points). It is a very direct and ‘to the point’ album with an emphasis on groove and the chorus. In the past, lots of my records end up taking a kind of Pink Floyd-ish route (between song meandering etc.) … Addicted is really simple: 11 rocking songs and no bullshit.

ADDICTED!
UNIVERSE IN A BALL!
BEND IT LIKE BENDER!
SUPERCRUSH!
HYPERDRIVE!
RESOLVE!
IH-AH!
THE WAY HOME!
NUMBERED!
AWAKE!

There was a song called 'Om' as the eleventh track on the tentative track listing. Resolve was called Wildhearts too and Supercrush was Beautiful Crush I think.

I guess the two MySpace announcements are over a month apart. Might want to fix that up though.
