I'd love it if Dev made his stuff available for remixing, NIN-style. I can imagine Universe done a few different ways, for example...

I don't see anything wrong with doing that. Would be interesting and I bet it would draw the better musicians to remix it other than the 100,000,000 fan mixes that NIN has floating out there.

I think Dev already mentioned he might be doing that for the boxset.

I was just thinking the same thing the other day. Lamb of God did something like that recently with a re-release of one of their albums, they included a bonus disk that had all the tracks for all the songs, included in individual files, so you could re-mix the original songs how you saw fit. very cool, got me to purchase the album again just for that content

Holy shiet "Universe in a ball" is mighty heavy! Big crunchy guitar sounds, pounding drums and screaming Devy really make this song intense. However I wished that the guitar parts were a little less bland, like a little more interesting without losing the core purpose of being simple.

Edit: I think the drums on this track are probably my favorite from any DT material. The snare is awesome and I just fucking love the beat it's unbelievable.

I agree. I think Devin lost his confidence in the simplicity, and made it sound like a giant spaceship. It's still cool though, I don't really have a preference.

Ki is genuinely my person favourite Devin Townsend album although I have been a fan for years. There is a certain suspense running through the cd which really clicks with me. It almost sounds in points like Devin's resisting the temptation to be heavy, and then in 'Heavens End' finally gives in to the desire. I especially love the come down after that track in Aint Never Gonna Win.... and Winter, which seems to be a ''Sorry i lost it there, ill be quieter now, i promise''. Some people may find Ki is not for them, but personally I see it as good as any of the other albums!

Personally for me "Ki" is up there for album of the year, that or Steven Wilson's Insurgentes... its a tough call. Of course we still have Addicted and a few other albums to come (the new Katatonia sounds promising!) but Ki will be up there for sure.

It was such a surprise to hear Ki coming from DT, it solidified how rounded his musical abilities are. Terminal nearly brought tears to my eyes when I first heard it, it was so powerful...

Ki is a fantastic piece of music and easily one of Devin's best albums. Sometimes it does feel like the album goes a bit underappreciated due to its softer tone and cleaner sound, but there are definitely plenty of us out there who think it's brilliant.

Universe in a Ball is really growing on me, at first I think I was a bit shocked at how different it was to my expectations of the song given the teaser and guitar tracking vid from back in July (or was it June? Anyway). However the more I listen to it the more I can't help but tap my feet or nod my head, the more I listen to it the more I appreciate everything that's going on in the song as well.
