Yeah sm57's are pretty good all rounders, directional mics, my band use em for micing up guitar cabs n backing vox and I have no complaints. Relatively cheap too. :guitar:

Not, SM57s, SM7. COMPLETELY different mic. About 4 times as expensive as the SM57 as well

i would imagine it would be bleedless but better quality? The names are quite similar, is sm7 a higher quality of the sm57? I am not sure about mics.

Hey Dev, I've been watching the Addicted videos, and I've gotta say like everyone else, I can NOT wait, it sounds beyond amazing.

I'm also wondering, how are your guitars coming? The Addicted one looks beeeeeautiful

I`ve heard that the sm7`s have no bleed at all..or close to none

This the one? http://www.shure.com/ProAudio/Products/WiredMicrophones/us_pro_SM7B_content

Sounds interesting, especially the internal shock mount and pop filter. Never thought about a dynamic mic in the first place (the diameter made it look like a tube/condenser to me), but now it's beginning to make sense. At least in cases where you don't need to get every tiny detail on the track - fuck subtlety...

I am buying an SM7.
If it's good enough for Dev, it's good enough for me.

i was under the impression that sm57 and sm7 are industry standards for high quality mics. Doesn't everyone use them?

Since we're completely off the topic, I'd love to ask Dev a question I'd be extremely interested in hearing his opinion on - Dev, what's your opinion/approach towards dynamics in recording your music in regard to the current "loudness war" going on in sound engineering? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war)

I'm too lazy to find the exact interviews/posts, but Devin has said that in the past he had the habbit of compressing the shit out of his albums in favour of the "wall of sound" thing he had going on. (It's not near Death Magnetic level anywhere though) But with Ki he gave up the loudness war. I'm not quite sure what his intentions are on the next couple of albums (Addicted and Decon), but I doubt he has a need to over-compress anything at this point.

Aaand Dev or someone with time to find exact quotes of the subject can come and correct me if I'm putting false words in his mouth here.

Whoa just been listening to the vocal tracking clip for about the last hour...wow wow wow wow wow...i need to calm down, thought it was awesome until it got to the last chorus part with all the backing vocals which sound incredible, its just so beautiful...i hope there are lots of bits like this on Addicted!

I keep coming on here everyday just to see if Dev announces; "its finally finished and Inside Out will be releasing it on the @*?%! of SHAZAM !"

Well it sounds pretty good to me, this latest clip gave me way more of a buzz than the "Resolve" clip...

Anyway i guess we all have to wait ill just have to throw myself into my work like some obsessed maniac...

In some ways i dont mind waiting for ages for it cause when it finally does come out it'll be SO worth the wait, Dev, theres no way you could disappoint us with a record that sounded even half as good as what ive heard so far. You are the only musician ive ever encountered with the kind of fans you have on here. Hope alls going well at the moment :D :D :D

Wow, that is a nice mic. Looks like I will be getting a SM7B. I generally use SM57s and SM58s and thought I would never need any other mic. Guess I was wrong. The SM58 will definitely bleed. The SM57 will bleed less, but never less, still bleed. Devin's vocal tracking video and this video has me sold.
