Universe in a Ball is so groovey and heavy. This is starting to sound better than I imagined it, although that typically is the case. Devin's description of music can only take your imagination so far unless you share his brilliance (and you dont!! Dont lie to yourself :p !!)

Resolve is just killer. Anneke's voice is great along with Devin's. Cannot... stop... listening!

Universe was neato!

The beginning was, dare I say, a little trip-hoppy (I guess that is, if trip hop ever rose above 100BPM) :) Townsend is really breaking some new ground, Kudos!

Another example. Rush. I don't listen to much other progressive rock...

Camel, Pink Floyd, Mostly Autumn, Porcupine Tree (and other Steven wilson projects), The Pineapple Thief, Riverside...

Just a couple of the great progressive rock bands out there.

If I'm gonna TRY to be objective about this (like that's even possible).

My feelings are so far that the songs are catchy, groovy etc (like every1 said so far).

BUT I hoped for more clean vocals. It reminds me a tad too much of Physicist, my least favourite album. I almost never listen to it, not because it's bad, but all the others are so much better.

What I really really really really want to talk about are the drums! Have you noticed how absolutely amazing, professional the drumming sounds?? IMO it fits the music like a glove. I've always enjoyed the drums on Devins records, but this time I think they stand out even more, they really grab my attention.

Could this be RVP's coolest work to date??

Man, the album's not even out (or finished, for that matter) and already there's 4 choruses stuck in my head. Wow.

And there's 79 pages of discussing the album already!

Shows a bit of the dedication of the Devin fans.

Sorry for the fan of Syl  but I think It's a good choice for Devin to do something in a heavy way different than syl because he can do everything he want with the emotions. The emotions who are sometimes absent in syl and not in the devin solo stuff. Ki was different (avant gardiste) but monumental (with some elements of terria on it). I think Addicted was a mix of ocean machine, phycisist and infinity with a lot of experimentations. Deconstruction a mix of all the devin's work (ziltoid, synchestra, the syl albums, accelerated evolution...) condensed in a rainbow of colour. For the 4th and last of the series album (reconstruction)... I think it's a mix of ki , terria (for some parts) and the hummer. Am I right? :help: The 4 series albums are all a condense (synthese) of the best work of devin (a sort of definition of his career). :guitar: After that? A new beginning? I think. But what are your opinions...? :coucou:

My opinion is that posting the same thing in two different threads is a bit overkill.

I don't want to go as far as to call the new albums a mix of the old ones. If you put it like that you make it seem like everything new is just recycling some of earlier work...

I'm guessing Timmy is an ode to Tim Hortons?

You're a smart man...

Lots of Timmy's was drank during our rehearsals. Good times....

RVP

I just got turned on to the goodness that is Tim Horton's coffee...I'm in Cleveland, where there is no Timmy to be had. However, my wife is on a medical rotation in Columbus, and my brother-in-law is in Michigan...both places have plenty of the Timmy.

Last time my wife was home for the weekend, she brought some beans from Timmy...let's just say my bro-in-law was right when he said there is no escape. It tastes fantastic cold brewed...

I'm returning to Vancouver at the end of August for 10 days and the first stop I am making is Tim Hortons and the last stop before flying back out to Finland will be at Tim Hortons loading up on coffee.
