Devin just wondering......in the clip on anekkes website when she sings; "all the worlds a stage" bit, is that from the song Numbered???? Just guessing but the vocal melody and the chords in the clip on youtube seem to fit!

Or should i get a hobby or something???

The Dev wrote:It's a Peavey...the photo doesn't do it justice though, it's actually not as small as it looks, there a heavy radius on it that goes into black, so on a black outfit, all you see is the top...which is spalted maple and really cool...

Glow in the dark side markers, coil tap in 2 and 4, some fancy hand wired pickups...alder body, 25.5 scale tuned to open Bb, input jack on the side...

I'm working on lots of ideas with Peavey, I get a grey and black 7 string V tommorow for Deconstruction....

Just narrowing the ideas down...still going to be a while till we get it...I'm very lucky and honored to be with them.

wow, you have an amazing taste in guitars dev!

Will this be on the market, or a dev only thing?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I just watched the two new videos... AWESOME!

Some albums of Devin had to be listened a couple of times before I liked it, but this... Wow, these song previews...
They kick ass and I liked them immediately after the first listen!

but you can't deduce on a full album from some snippets - let's see if the high anticipations can be held. although there is no doubt from my point of view.

I couldn't disagree more, some years ago I bought Accelerated Evolution and could hardly deal with it.. 2 years later I got some kind of infected through its heart, passion and musical greatness. But the first moment I completly fell in love with it was when watching the Safezone DVD, which is an unbeatable masterpiece.

All in all I definitely think that music that hits you in a positive way from the first second on, gets kinda boring throughout the years. but I know that even if I like the new DTP stuff from the first moment on, it will grow on me as well

bla bla bla btw - just avoiding to work 8)

Can't agree with this at all. Some of the best albums in my collection have been ones that didn't jump out at me right away. Infinity being a good example.

The best music is not always the most catchy or immediately obvious.

I was introduced to Devin through SYL and I never had a problem getting into those albums. They never had to grow on me. It clicked from the beginning (though I am a metalhead). When I eventually decided to give Devin's solo stuff a shot I got into it right away. Started with Terria and Ocean Machine then Accelerated Evolution, Synchestra, Infinity then Physicist. I never had a problem with dumping any work because I didn't get it or it didn't click. I felt right away that all the material was just excellent.

But there are other bands that have released albums that I really dig and then put out material that I just don't get and it does not work with me. For example Korpiklaani's Korven Kuningas. The first 5 songs of the album were fantastic. I didn't get any of the rest of the album. Nothing clicked. I don't know of it is suppose to grow or not and when will it? It has been out a year and I listen to it about once every couple weeks and I still cannot listen to anything after the track "Shall We Take A Turn?".

I have just become very weary of people who recommend to me something but say that it needs time to grow on me. I am very generous to bands and give anything recommended to me more than a couple of spins. But I find that most albums either click right away or not at all. (Of course if my style or mood changes then maybe I can enjoy something 5 or 6 years down the line but I think that is something completely different).

Another example. Rush. I don't listen to much other progressive rock. I have heard a few songs from Journey, I have a couple of Led Zeppelin vinyls that I spin sometimes but that is about it for progressive rock. Just something I never bothered to dig into yet. Well I was searching eBay and found an original vinyl copy of Hemispheres for cheap a few years ago and thought, "well they are Canadian, well known and respected rock, never heard them, lets check it out." Once it arrived I spun it. Again. Again. It has been a couple of years and I love the whole album. Never had to sit and listen over and over before I finally found what everyone else liked. I loved it right away. I have gotten 5 more vinyls since and every single one has "clicked" on the first spin.

so you are

a) an extraordinary lucky guy on the one hand and

b) a bit to feel sorry for obviously never getting the magic "awoooaah" effect when you recognize simple greatness that you didn't understand before on the other hand.

can't say what is better, as long as music touches our inner-self we're all happy I guess ;)

the same is for me with Agalloch, anyone who likes melodies from the heart and nature-related, a bit progressive songstructures without fearing black metal-vibes (good production though) should check them out. but I'm getting off-topic, sorry for that.

You got it. I was sorely disappointed with Infinity at first. I wanted another Ocean Machine, but after a week it was my fave album of all time. And I still hear new sounds on almost every listen...

Hopefully we will get some of this on Deconstruction. I can't help but worry about the pace of the writing and recording process on these albums. I know the older, more dense albums took forever, which may have added to their depth. Hopefully I am just overreacting and the quickness is just a sign that Dev has a better handle on things, not to mention protools really speeds things up.

Loving the Addicted clips though. Yep, totally immediate. Didn't expect anything less, and I LOVE it.

Annekes vocals on "resolve" give me the chills. I must resist not listening to it to often so I can still enjoy the actual recording of it.
I want more... MORE!! :furious:
