i just noticed the twitter update about the Addicted artwork. Can we get any foresight about it? Is it also going to be 3D like Ki's?

Dev, I recommend making Deconstruction just one long track. Or maybe two or three, but still. Because that's what cool people do.

Yes, that would be awesome, what a journey that would be!

but maybe that would conceptually overload the album.

I'd be pretty annoyed to have a 60-70 minute song. Way too much. Espeically if you only want to listen to one part of it, before switching to something else. :?

I don't want another "echoes"...that was long enough....and I still ALMOST get bored near the end...

I have an album by a French Death Metal band called "Comity"

There's 99 tracks on the album ranging from a few seconds up to maybe 2 minutes here and there. There seems to be 4 atual songs in there but it's a pretty intense listen. Very Doomy indeed.

I once played it on random and it almost broke my brain.

I don't know about Addicted, Decon., or the ambient one but that picture just HAS to be the cover of an album. ANY album.
Preferably one belonging to a different band for comedic effect. Perhaps the new Fear Factory album?

They could totally work the F's together.   :|

New Porcupine Tree album is a 55 minute track. I'm excited by the idea. Means the piece must be listened to as a whole, as intended.

I think that's something he might consider after these 4. He already knows near enough exactly where hes going with them and I think wierd tracklistings would deter focus away from the songs and towards superficial stuff like that. As he said himself, hes into doing ambient, experimental stuff, perhaps that concept might be great for that. Sometimes its good keeping things simple, elegantly appropriated by the example of Ki.

Damn those Peavey's are sexy. You should get some guitars made for certain moods. Saying that, you still use your ESP Horizons and Teles?

(PS listening to Project EKO for the first time in ages at the mo, some of it sounds like the late night bloomberg financial overview music, i love it! You should delve into electronic/trip hop stuff)

I'm having musical dilemmas myself at the moment...

The Dev wrote:Yup, Addicted will be polarizing. It's all honest though, so I'm confident. I seem to do one style till I'm sick of it, then another comes along that piques my interest because of it being the antithesis. (Alien into Hummer etc...) I did Ki until the quiet tension that so drew me into it became too frustrating, then I wanted to just go to a party and dance, get rid of that tension, sex, excercise, a clean release...no drugs or booze of course, Ki was threatening to go in a number of ways, and a celebration seemed the most fitting.

After the party though, sometimes at the end of the night, after dancing your ass off...having glorious meaningless conversations and laughing to you cry, you're sick of it and have a headache...then you get grumpy.

Deconstruction is truly an angry record...but the point of why it is what it is is based on WHAT it's angry about...and the typical 'mad at god , mad at satan, mad at the universe' stuff, which sells lots of shirts and ipod skins, is NOT what this is about.

The movies that were in constant rotation for Addicted are :

Planet Earth, The Elegant Universe, The Universe, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Bulletproof Monk, Hellboy, Evil Dead, Zoolander, and the UK version of the Office.

I totally agree with the way everyone feels about this being a personal experience i.e.- reading your tweets, reading your posts and your responses to our questions...all of this makes these releases mean so much more. I too am now insanely excited for Addicted, more so than Ki. I love Ki. LOVE it. But man, I am impatient...and my moods change frequently. By the hour sometimes! Ki IS my album of the year so far, but I can't wait to give Addicted the chance to be number one. I hope this doesn't sound like I am dissing Ki. No way.
Those pics give me the chills (not the funny ones lol). It brings me back to 1998 when I first bought Infinity, or way back in 1993 when I first saw pictures of you with Vai and was thinking "Who is this very nice guy? He is totally gonna ruin my favorite guitarist!" hahahaha. Turns out your voice is the only thing I took away from that record (Sex and Religion).
YESSS...The Universe!! Best show ever. I watch reruns of it and still can't seem to get sick of it. You might also like Naked Science, and I am sure you have seen the Cosmos series. Wicked inspiration!
Oh yea....that guitar is f-ing gorgeous. Will they be for sale?
Dan

LOL...Ok, I seem to remember quitting drugs a year ago, but I must be trippin' because I swear I used different terminology in the above quote! Please, someone tell me I am not crazy.....

Dan
P.S.- I wasn't trying to dis Dev before...

I wasn't going to say anything, but I was thinking just that.

Though the length might scare some off, when listening to something really awesome as a whole.... it probably won't be as big a turn off as one might think. Damns, I mean look at 2112....very long, but still one of the most epic things ever. In MOST cases, I believe that length shouldn't be indicative of whether something is listenable or not IMHO. If you don't like Tree to begin with, well disregard this.

And once again... to reiterate, you can break up the song into segments on iTunes if need be. Might not flow as well, but I'm always grooving to part 3 of Anesthetize on it's own. A song is a song is a song.

I'm with Nevaeh on the Trip-Hop thing.

I can see it now, Devin Townsend Vs Coldcut

With some DJ Kentaro remixes.

:D

Ah... It's nice to dream.

Ooooh. Actually no, Devin and Infected Mushroom together would blow my mind entirely.
They have an album called Vicious Delicious that quite honestly gets me high without touching a drug.
And they've been known to mix in a little heavy guitar with their tunes.

Damn man, I hope I dream about that gig tonight.

:D

Massive Attack's Blue Lines meets Devin Townsend's Ki. We can only dream.

anyone know any good ways to upload music to the net, ftp or flash/java applet player without gaying around with crappy registration or uploaders?
