I quite like that name! I was thinking 'Wish you were here' or does that sound too Floyd-y? Or 'Postcards from the Edge' - blast, already done too. How about 'Traveller'....bugger.

I'll have a look at the video when I get some quality time with an audio-enabled PC. It was the cat that sold it. :D

When I first got into Devin's music, it was all about SYL. I thought he was a great musician just from listening to that.

But what made me LOVE Devin's work was listening to Terria and especially Deep Peace. I think it takes a really talented person to go from something like SYL to Terria and make both sound incredible and better than 99% of the people that do music in each genre.

Yeah, one of the things I really like about Devin's music is the range of genres and emotion conveyed. Some of Devin's stuff is really mellow, but has a really hard edge to it. To someone like me, that likes a range of genres, but also really likes metal and other aggressive genres, it's really cool to hear mellow music written by a metalhead. I think mellow music in other genres can be too limited sometimes, because these genres can't express emotions like anger as well as metal can.

Sometime like By Your Command is a good example, even if it isn't a mellow song. The way it oscillates between different moods. Compare the start of the song, to the part about 3:45 in.

As for doing the same thing all the time, I have no idea how big touring bands can find the enthusiasm to play the same songs live, over and over again. I know the money helps, but how can a band like Metallica for example, still have any enthusiasm left for singing songs like Master of Puppets live, even if they are rolling in it? Think how many times they must have performed that song live by now.

i think they have played creeping death like 1200 times no matter how gooda song that is they must get bored of it

saying that tho im not playin to 20,000 people a night screaming my name

Maybe I'm too young to be this cynical but just about all of us experience considerable boredom in our jobs, so for me the boredom that bands like metallica must have for playing the same songs every night is no different than what any of the rest of us have.

And a really interesting post from Devin there and definitely something I can relate to...so whataver brings out the results for him is going to work for me :D

:o first post in ages...I've been here, just reading

I think actually that's a ver true point of view. Jobs can't awlays be interesting all of the time :P

I just had a thought -

Dev, is there anyhting musically that you do not like? You have a pretty broad range, but is there anything you really CAN NOT listen to, for whatever reason?

Just out of random curisoity. :D

First of all I want to thank you for everything you've done. Your music has made me appreciate music in a different, more interesting and better way than I did before I started listening to it a couple of years ago. It's also made me more interested in production of music.

And regarding your youtube vid, wow, just wow. The "So Be It" jams has been looping for a good hour now. Covers such a wide spectrum, wich is really nice as I hate listening to just one style of music. Gets kinda boring you know?
I'm pretty sure I will be out of reach for a couple of hours when I get to listen to your new albums.

"Ki is for me."
This makes me long for Ki even more. Makes it personal and special in some way and I'm going to feel honored to be able to listen to it once it's done.

Oh, and thank you so much for posting here. Feels really nice to know that you actually read what we post, even though this is my first post. For this and your music, you my highest respect.

So we now have 4 albums on the way?!

Very cool to read Devs explanation for it all as well, as if I didn't have enough respect for the man, it has grown yet more. You sir, are an artist and you make my life better for sharing your work with the world.

Devin! Hi!

In those videos you seem to be using the 50's strat reissues? (If you are, fantastic choice!)

Do you change any of the pickups? to SD's? Or are they all stock?

I recently have become less of a fan of high output pickps (all preamp loaded ones like EMG)n because they sound sterile and don't really "use the wood" (you could shove them in a breeze block and it'd sound good) Do you have thouts on that??

Has anyone noticed that all the related videos that accompany "The Pooper" involves Bono in some way?
Very apt.

You have to be a truly amazing musician to play Maiden that badly. Heh heh. Very nice work Dev.
