According to iTunes - I've listened to 'Ki' (the title track, not the whole album) 23 times today - it just makes my tummy go all fuzzy everytime I hear it :D

Just ordered my copy. Downloaded because I wanted it now, though I can't wait to see the artwork and CD.

This is your most honest, mature and appealing album in my opinion. Little things like the sample and hold in Coast or your layers of background vocals make a far bigger impact than in your previous work because the mix is so open. Did you use any analog synths? I thought I heard an ARP in there.

You've always had talent for mixing and production, but I can't believe how much you've improved over the years. You should feel incredibly proud of yourself because this is honestly just as good as any of the top engineers/producers in the business. My favorite thing about the album is the production choice you made for guitar. I'm assuming you did a lot of long takes because I can hear you changing tempo or not playing quite perfectly at times and it makes the recording sound raw and live. It really speaks to the whole mood for this album.

Are you intending on using Che in some/all future projects? Your vocals complement each other well, and she really complements your music in general.

Thanks Dev for a GREAT album. I hope you update the web site soon, I've seen a few graphics pop up but a redesign would be awesome. I am a professional web designer, as I'm sure other people on this forum are, so let us know if we can lend a hand!

Lossless is full/above CD quality audio.

I personally think it's a great idea, if you're going to release music online. Somebody posted earlier about CDs getting outdated; I wouldn't go that far, but digital distribution is getting more and more popular, and most of the people who prefer that method would want full quality (in addition to other options/bonuses, like all the artwork in the form of a .pdf file). The best method I've seen has been with Nine Inch Nail's new album, the Slip. He offered it in:

a variety of formats including high-quality MP3, FLAC or M4A lossless at CD quality and even higher-than-CD quality 24/96 WAVE. your link will include all options - all free. all downloads include a PDF with artwork and credits.

I think releasing your albums in lossless like Trent Reznor did is a great idea. I think it would also reduce piracy if someone can just buy a perfect lossless copy online before the cd even comes out. $12 for the ebay cd is really cheap, I imagine you could sell downloadable copies for even less and still make the same profit since you are not making the physical cds and all the costs related to that. You can read about the NIN album at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Slip_%28album%29 and you can get an idea of how successful it was for him, maybe you could even contact him. It seems like nearly every one rips their cd's to their computers/ipods anyways and the cd sort of just sits around after that collecting dust, although the artwork and lyrics are nice but you can include those in a downloadable copy as well like NIN did.

Lossless can be other formats, too. FLAC is the most common, though, I guess.

Yeah, not many takes...maximum 10 or 12, some songs 2 or three.

The bass drums and guitar are live for the most part, there's overdubs for the second guitar etc, and a couple of places where I shat the bed :}

I don't enjoy the computer sounding productions as much any more, still like them...but it didn't seem appropriate for this one...

Thanks for the compliments!

I did it Dev!,

My first eBay purchase ever: 2 copies of Ki.

I hope I can hand one copy to Jorge Negrete, the guy that, back a couple of years ago, introduced me to your DTB and SYL CD's, wich he mostly bought directly from you from here, Chile.

It's a funnt story. I first heard your Live In Australia CD on the radio (199?) and totally liked it, then the video clip for Oh My Fuckin God...

A couple of years ago I entered a music store here and saw a guy with a SYL symbol on his bag. Without knowing him I just talked to him about SYL and after he looked at me from head to toe like wondering "who the hell it this?", started talking and finally becoming music friends. So I owe him a lot!

I REALLY hope you can make it to Chile. I'm sure you'll get gerat support from our country's fans and also in Argentina and Brazil, but you have to make it to CHILE anyway!!

Let me express my true appreciacion for yourself, your art, you genius and your humbleness.

Hugs!

i've been thinking that ki would've been awesome to do analog, you should get a good 2" 16 or 24 track machine and just bounce all of the tracks into PT.

Ordered! Can't wait to have it. And I'm working on getting some of the album detail kinks worked out at progarchives...

Question. I haven't seen this yet, but I don't have time to read this whole thing. At the end of Ki, is that the Drumkit from Hell? And distorted guitars? Or are those some sort of auditory illusions brought about by billions of Devins singing?
