Go to page 76 of this thread. Also, it was hardly a rant.

Overall atmosphere has been very positive though. Most reviews I've seen have been favourable too. And for a good reason!

And again on page 77. Nothing is wrong with it, but why come here and post it. Why even be on the forum if all your going to do is talk down about the artist who owns the forum? If your not a producer/engineer, what do you know about the sound of the album anyways? :|

As I said, it's a discussion forum, the point is to discuss things, to allow only positive opinions defeats the point entirely.
There's a big difference between saying "this album is shit", and "I don't like this album because x,y,z". No musician will ever make a piece of music or an album that is liked by every human being on the planet, no matter how good it is, since taste is entirely subjective.

I can think of several bands where I can tell that they're good, and amazingly talented, but I just don't "get it" and they do absolutely nothing for me.

As for having to be a producer or engineer to criticise the sound of an album, that's just silly. Do you need to be able to program games to criticise a computer game? Of course not, and no one would suggest that is the case. Does one have to be a chef to criticise a meal? Why should music be any different?

Just got my (unsigned :( I don't really mind, I know Dev's a really busy man) copy of Ki. God, I LOVE this album, so much... There's some truly beautiful stuff in there and just owning it made my day. May sound lame, but it made me extremely happy :D But I need a pair of 3D glasses

I'd probably keep my mouth shut if I didn't like the music (not the case anyway) as well, but I think it's bad news if people can impose their expectations on what others have to say. Go see what Mike Portnoy's forum is like... it's a giant ass kissing machine... boring!

So I was enjoying some of the mellower moments of Ki on the scenic bus ride to work today, and as I was wistfully staring out the window I see a street sign drift by: "Townsend Dr"

Never seen that street before on that bus route. Quite cool :D

I sincerely have liked everything has done so far... cept for Physicist. Not that it's bad, (it's actually really good) but I feel like it's his worst album. I have good faith that all of Dev's future music will be enjoyable. I strangely feel like I am maturing with his music. Ki could not have come at a better time in my life. I'm starting to calm down and lead a happier life away from my usual misery and I'm looking up lately, then along comes Ki; this mellow and far more positive expirence that somewhat reflects what I feel now.

I must say, if Dev makes more music similar to the end of Coast, I would love it. That kind of power and overall flow is awesome. I want more from that song not so much for the build up, but because it's so heavy without being heavy. It's got the signature wall of sound without going too far and is very new wave-ish almost. I love it.

You keep making albums, I'll keep listening Dev!

Criticising Ki is not the same thing as criticising Devin Townsend, nor is criticising someone's work incompatible with respecting them.

I was thinking the same thing.....I am hoping some of Addicted will have that electronic, pulse-y element. Heavy and dancy? Hell yes!

It is when people are saying over and over that the production sound of Ki is bad. But hey, as Dev posted above, he dosen't give a fuck if you come in here and bash Ki, so I am out of this discussion.

Oh I definitely give a fuck...it stings like a bitch when you put your heart into something and people dislike it based on relatively small factors.

I just feel like an artist looks like a total jackass jumping into a conversation to defend him or herself. It's a forum, bash it if you want...I have my own opinions, but you know, they're mine and I don't want to influence discussion.

I'm not going to stop doing it (music) , the goal is that folks enjoy it.
