Hi all, I love the new album. I'd like to ask a question about something that I haven't seen addressed anywhere else in the forum (please correct me if it's been discussed). The song Quiet Riot has a melody for the lines "And I don't know why, and I don't care why anymore" very similar to the melody and lyrics in the Slade song "Cum on Feel The Noize," which was covered by Quiet Riot. Did the song come first then the similarity bring the title, or was the song written knowingly in reference to the old Slade song? Or am I way off base? If anyone knows, please enlighten me.
Also, I apologize for mentioning Devin and Quiet Riot (the band) in the same breath. No offense to Quiet Riot, but Devin is God.

I got my copy of Ki today. I am listening in Windows Media right now.....I tried it first in the VLC player. I think I like Windows better. MAN! this sounds way better (to these ears anyway) than the FLAC files I had. It sounds so heavy! Damn.......

So whats up with the totally unreadable credits? hahaha.....reminds of the first time I bought City...I had to grab a magnifying glass to read the damn lyrics.....I am going over a friends house tonight that has 3d glasses so I can see this bad boy.

Thanx Dev....you da man!

Can't wait till the day the B.N. album comes out! I will be the first in line...

That is funny, I was thinking the same thing even before I heard the song. After hearing it, I was thinking about that Slade song even more. I am glad I am not the only one who think this. 8)

Inquiring minds want to know ....

Nevaeh wrote:But what bugs me, is this "sincerity" thing that pops up. Yes, Ki is absolutely sincere and you can hear it, and I really don't want to misunderstand anything or insult, but It feels like a tiny bit of a pee-take if everything before Ki is seemingly now second rate. I like Ki, some of its absolutely beautiful, some of it is a different (but still welcome change) but I just hope it's not going down that kind of course that Linkin' Park did (not that I'm a fan or that devin compares in any manner), where they decided to say everything before their latest album was " nothing compared to our new stuff". Alot of fans were pissed - cause those albums got them somewhere, and allowed them to carry on their dream of making music.

As musician, it's always difficult to listen to your previous work. When I listen to demos I have from 9 years ago with an old band.... man I'm embarrassed about the musicianship :D Imagine what it must feel like knowing that these records which are indeed a part of your life and carry so many memories -some of them negative- are revered by so many people. I can imagine the sort of feeling Dev must have with his own music, I'm sure he is quite puzzled as to why we think terria or infinity are perfect albums, when he himself will be the first to point out shortcomings in them :D

That's what I think he means when he compares them to his previous work. I think he is absolutely confident that he is making these new records for the right reasons and in the right state of mind. And you can hear that in the excitement with which he describes them. Now, for us, as fans... I think we should not be overly concerned about reading these kind of statements you know? Devins' relationship with his albums is his. And ours is ours, once he releases them, he cannot keep us from loving or from not enjoying them.
I'm not saying that Devins opinion is not important, but usually the opinion of the artist is not really fair towards his work. So don't get carried away by the surroundings, just listen to the music and enjoy it (or not), cause that is the most important thing.

My copy may have been sitting in my house waiting on my arrival for 10 days, but it was still a great joy to tear open that envelope. And I'm keeping the Canadian stamps, they're funky looking.

Ripping it in .wav now, been dying to hear this as its supposed to sound since I heard the first notes of A Monday way back.

Just one thing: Dev, you got some candle wax shit or something on the credits page of my sleeve! Just kidding, it came off  And props on the Arrested Development reference, best show ever.

The ending of Trainfire is probably the best part of the entire cd, Its so beautiful, godlike.

Winter is also one of the favorites.

Sometimes that is the best stuff....when we don't take ourselves too seriously as musicians.

BTW....the 3d images of Ki look pretty swift.....esp. Dave in that forest pic. Its like BAM! he is right there in your face haha.

Good job Devin....I think the artwork totally suits the music. For some reason the face on the cover goes perfect with the vibe of Disruptr to me. That haggard ass yell...."distractions!!!" Man.....in a way that is heavier than any SYL song I have ever heard. I would like to know how he pulled that off production-wise.

Got my signed copy today, was waiting for me when I got home after finishing Uni for the Summer. What better way to kick off the holidays? Great, amazing, soothing and emotional album, sounds stunning with CD-quality. One minor gripe though, why's the cover art sort of off-centre? :s

I have had a while to digest Ki and the thing i love about it is that the more i listen to it, the more i seem to love it. the songs really do begin to grow on you :)

going back a few years when the internet was not as much of an entity as it is now, i wonder, were there many people bitching about Devin's choices to do an album like Terria? i would imagine that at the time that album was released, it would have been thought of as being different to his other work.
Like Devin has said in multiple interviews, Ki is like the introduction to this 4 part story. it restrains itself without going too far over the top. its like keeping a cap on things to prevent it from bursting. i think this dynamic works great in songs like Disruptr. from the hints we have been given, i'd imagine Addicted and Deconstruction will be albums that the people not enjoying ki, have been waiting for.

People are entitled to their opinions, i guess, but a lot of people tend to sulk about it, complaining that they didnt enjoy the album like the artist personally has some kind of debt to them. the classic albums remain classic albums because they are a unique body of work which represents the artist at that time in their lives.

I saw Spinal Tap: Unwigged and Unplugged last night, and had a signed copy of Ki waiting for me in the mail today. So, it's been a great weekend!

Fantastic songs! I love the thick, clean guitars. Terminal, Lady Helen, and Quiet Riot are early favorites. Thanks, Devin!

I gotta say, it makes a world of difference having this cd in my hands. It means so much more to me now, and I am glad I took some time off of listening to the torrented version until my pre-order came. I feel more connected to it now...somehow. I was just studying, and I wasn't sure if Ki would be good background music because I would probably want to pay attention to it. It worked though, and all throughout I felt a deep trance-like connection to it. I can't explain it too well, but at certain points I thought I might have to put my book down to weep because the emotions were so intense. Yet, I wasn't too distracted to concentrate. Go figure.

I didn't think my level of appreciation would go any deeper for this release, but I feel now like it is limitless. The more I listen, the more I WANT to listen. I am almost scared of what my reaction will be to the next albums. I have a feeling it will be the biggest life changing experience yet, maybe even more so than Infinity, OM and City. Who knows?
