"This is the first song..."

I don't understand. On the FTATR DVD, at some point Devin says
"This is the first song on our new album"
and they start playing Velvet Kevorkian/All Hail The New Flesh. That is indeed the opening combo of the City album. But the latest SYL record at the time of FTATR was the chicken feather record, the first songs of which (Dire/Consequence) was already played at the beginning of the gig.
It confused me ever since I first heard it.
Your thoughts?

I remember hearing it was a reference to something, but uh... I can't remember what. Sorry!

It was a reference to something that Robin Zander said on the "Cheap Trick at Budokan" live album.

Hey all,
Here's another pop-culture reference on For those Aboot..., the intro to Consequence contains Devy screaming "Look at all the people here tonight!".
Surely this refers to David Lee Roth era Van Halen... it was part of DLR's scripted stage banter for much (or all) of their "1984" tour.
When I was 15 my band played the school talent show (1986?) and our singer talked up the crowd by saying the same exact thing... not nearly as metal tho.
cheers
