Devin and Contact

Greets fellow music lovers,

i'm a very huge fan of the movie Contact (1997) with Jodie Foster. Now this day i found out that Devin obviously kinda likes that movie too, because you see it on one of his Ki-videos on Tv in the background. I was reallly pleased that Devin apparently has a fine taste in movies.
After some research i came to the track "The abacus" from the Hummer record which uses some very subtle samples of the movies soundtrack. As for the soundtrack, it's a stunning and exceptionally beautiful piece of music by Alan Silvestri. When I heard some of his music in "The Abacus", I just couldn't help myself, a big smile grew on my face. Really made my day.

The most crazy thing about it is that since I know Contact and the Ocean Machine record, I somehow happened to draw a connection between them. I always felt that parts of OM really fit to the movie's overall atmosphere. That's just my weird feeling. And today, I found out that Devin likes that movie too. :o

edit: just noticedd that Devin even used a sample of Jodie Foster speaking at the very end of the track. Awesome.

Cool. Nice one finding out where that sample is from. He uses the same sample at the end of Equation too (with the pitch lowered... or that its raised in The Abacus, not that it makes a difference)

Those parts are my favourite bits in the whole album. They send chills down my spine. Amongst all the ambience and "humming" throughout the album, hearing that delicate piano with that womans voice (who we now know, thanks to you, is Jodie Foster :P) with the emotion in the way she speaks... awesome.

Cheers for that :)

To those who haven't seen the film (like me) - I found it on youtube:

I'm afraid Contact is the only film I fell asleep in the cinema watching D: I didn't like it that much...

As we're vaguely on the subject, I always felt listening to Devlab was like falling through DalĂ paintings... :P

Sounds corny, but this part made me ball when I first saw it...and it still chokes me up everytime. When she touches the sky, the notes you hear...perfect.

When I got The Hummer and saw Contact was credited in the samples list, I was intrigued, and pleased to hear the effect to which it was used.
