Help a new fan prepare for seeing DTP live in March!

I'm seeing them in Melbourne in March. I'm really excited. I absolutely love Ziltoid and Addicted. The first Devin album I heard was Terria and I didn't like it (I still don't really). I quite like Ki, but it's a little bit too laid back for me. I have heard Cooked on Phonics and I love it too! I think I'm more into the straightout rock and roll style of Devin Townsend. I'm looking to get into more Devin Townsend before the show. Any idea what other albums I should listen to next? Also in what order?

Be sure to check out 'Ocean Machine - Biomech' and 'Infinity.' You really can't go wrong with anything by him, but I'd put those two up there with his best, along with 'Terria.'
If you like his more straightorward rock (catchier) songs, here are some songs I think you'd particularly like:
"Christeen"
"Bad Devil"
"Ants"
"Wild Colonial Boy"
"Noisy Pink Bubbles"
"Life"
"Stagnant" - this one's from Terria, amazing song, one of my absolute favorites by him
Those are only a few examples...

As far as a full album of 'straight out Rock' is concenred, as much as is possible with Devin, the album to get is undoubtedly Accelerated Evolution, as well as Addicted which you already have. AE is just a big, ball-busting Rock album with slightly scaled back Devin quirk. Tunes like 'Storm', 'Traveller' and 'Slow Me Down' are as close to straight Rock as he's ever done. Check that one out.
Oh, and welcome to the Devin fandom family! All are welcome, and tell your friends....

I sure have converted two friends and they're both coming with me to see Dev!
Thanks for the suggestion, guys!

Terria seems to be a Devin album that divides some fans. I've met other fans who enjoy stuff like Ocean Machine or Accelerated Evolution a lot but don't care for Terria and other people who really like Terria but don't care for the other albums...
And to OP, definitely get Accelerated Evolution, then Ocean Machine and Infinity..... Actually, any order is good as they're all pretty much equal to me.

I find it a shame you don't enjoy his deeper stuff. To each his own, but man...you are missing out.

Infinity is going to blow you the fuck away.
Also a shame you don't like Terria, that was my first Dev album and what got me hooked. I remember I was listening to it while riding in the car through some mountains in Canada. Yeah that was an amazing experience.

I had the same reaction. I can't think of any of Dev's albums I've heard that I dislike, and Terria is awesome! Each to their own of course, but yeah.
Accelerated Evolution was my first Dev album, once I heard it I went and picked up everything else I could find at the time. Wasn't disappointed - & never have been

Accelerated Evolution can't get you wrong, it's probably the most accessible.
Oh and Ocean Machine.

Umm.. Ki is a mellow cd aside from a couple songs and Addicted is more of a "pop" style cd; not quite "rock and roll"... Terria is a great cd, you just have to feel it to get into it.. But either way, you should check out Ocean Machine, it's his first DTB release, and also Physicist.. Physicist is also another hard one to get into due to the poor production and all, but if you don't mind the production and actually listen to the album it's pretty good

Terria was also the first Townsend album I heard,
And I fell in love with it immediately! It really opened a whole new musical world for me...

Strapping isn't straight rock, it's closer to a Progressive Thrash.. I'm pretty sure he means older style rock without as many screams and such, not positive though. Accelerated Evolution would probably be a one for you.
