The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

When I watched some of the videos on the site of Dev in the studio, I noticed that, at times, there are 2 TVs set up in the studio (usually across from each other) and they're both playing the same program/video....does Dev just REALLY REALLY like TV or is there a reason behind that? The videos I'm referring to are 'Ki Tracking Trainfire and Heaven’s End' and 'Tracking Bass for the song ‘Ki’'

PS the reason I ask is because I've seen shots of other artists in their studios and they, too, have dual TV sets going

My idea is that people have the TVs going in order to keep the gears turning, so to speak. Home recording is a hobby of mine, and I can say that at times the process can wear me down mentally or even physically. I've never done it before, but I can see how having something playing could keep the mind stimulated. While you sit and listen to and/or reflect on what you've just worked on, the movie/show/documentary on the television could definitely influence your state of mind.

Perhaps you're playing back a section or track. Maybe even the whole song. The screen could be playing one of those immaculate HD nature programs, the images mesmerizing you as you dream up new sounds/layers to your music.

Maybe you're stuck on what to do next, or you can't quite figure out how to get the sound you want. Maybe you don't even know what sound you want. It'd be easy to just take off your headphones (if any) and turn up the volume on your movie. I know in one of the videos on Devin's channel the movie Contact is playing. You could sit and watch the movie while keeping your song/problem in the back of your mind, or maybe you just get lost in the film and take a break from the work. Sometimes a break is exactly what you need.

Just a few random examples. When I first saw the screens I thought, "whaaaaaa?!" but over time I realized it makes perfect sense. Put on the 'visualtrack' to your soundtrack.

Even if what is on is not there to influence or inspire, I've always found that something to take you out of what you're doing every so often is incredibly helpful. Sometimes you end up working for hours and get so lost in it you lose perspective and end up spending lots of time on it without getting good results. The need to keep in touch with reality is often underestimated in things like recording.

Ahhhhh yes of course...that actually makes good sense. I think I might even try that myself...constant visual and mental stimulation. Love it! Thanks folks! I knew somebody on here would know! :D
