You should write a symphony after you finish all your current projects!

That would be so awesome.

I'd love to hear something like that. I was also interested in something he mentioned in an interview a while back... something about writing a musical type thing. Judging by Ziltoid I'm sure a Devin Townsend musical would be pretty amazing.

He's said a good few times he's aiming up for a metal symphony at some point in his career. Most recently saying:

The Dev - July 2nd wrote:So, as Deconstruction is kind of my 'freak flag waving metal symphony' I'm going to use several approaches for the drums, some digital, and a few different live dudes.

The Dev - July 3rd wrote:Well, Decon. is my metal symphony...so there will be narrative on that...it's not very funny though...like a less annoying opera.

Now, while I know July is a shit-long time ago, especially considering how the guy chops and changes ideas and direction a lot in the processes of writing and recording, and thus might not be in any way a reflection on the current direction of Deconstruction, but hey, it's something to look forward to if it is gonna be that way.

He's even mentioned it as far back as 07, just after Ziltoid was completed he said he was lining up...

The Dev - June 7th, 07 wrote:A hugely complicated, dynamic metal 'symphony' thing...mainly instrumental...(except for the choir vox type shit) 72 minutes

So I think it does enter his head, and it's obviously an idea that's been brewing in the cranium for quite some time!

Yup, thats the plan...just gotta purge first.

Deconstruction is the closest thing to a symphony yet, but not quite...

After the dtp? I've been taking lessons from Vai in terms of composing. Working hard. Decon. will have the first attempts.

Comp lessons from Vai? You lucky man you...

I'm going to school for composition. I MUST know how genius' like Stravinksy and Berlioz composed such amazing pieces, so far ahead of their time.

Please keep us updated on how that whole process is going! I am sure I am not the only one who is curious. :D

What kinda theme base might it have, any thoughts in that regard?

Some composes can get pretty metaphysical when it comes to scales, creating applications and effects that are.......
hey, I'm having a de-ja vu, and my lights just all went dim for a second, whoa.....

There's no impossible things in music for you, Dev.

Symphony is awesome idea.

I was actually thinking in terms of a more "traditional" symphony, although I have no idea if Dev would be interested in doing anything like that. I just think it'd be really interesting to see what the result would be like.

I'm definitely looking forward to Deconstruction though :D
