Something I noticed about almost every album...

Lots of Dev's albums seem to have one song that is REALLY slow and huge, and is just heavy texture and not really too many changes or melodies.

For example:
Synchestra - Judgement/Simple Lullaby
Infinity - Soul Driven
Alien - Thalamus
City - Spirituality
Terria - Tiny Tears
SYL - Bring on the Young
Ocean Machine - Bastard (sooorta)

For me these songs are always the hardest to get into, but always end up being my favorites. Anyone else noticed this?

Yeah, I agree with you here. If you listen to the commentary on the Physicist disc Devin speaks about making these long songs. Physicist has Planet Rain, of course.

Though remember Terria has quite a few of the beasts!

Also, the Christeen EP contains the epic Processional, which was nearly on Infinity.

Yeah. But Ocean Machine is a little different..
I would say that OM's slow'n'huge winner would be Death of Music.
The massiveness is not produced with guitars, though. No, with a synth. But it's still incredibly long, huge and heavy texture.

Yes, I agree. Though with Ocean Machine the 'big song' thing is taken in triplicate with the 1-2-3 of Funeral, Bastard the TDOM. A mighty combination!

I love the long songs. So good to have both quality and quantity! How annoying would it be if Devin wrote these awesome songs, but limited them to 2-minutes long?

id vote for Bastard on OM too, it gets me almost on a trance :D
and the cool thing is that it could even be considered repetitive, but its not tiring at all

Don't forget Planet Rain, although that one isn't really huge I guess, but a beautiful epic song anyway.

Yeah though, I know what you mean, there seems to be one on every album, and OM seems to have the three of them.

Well I'm not talking just the long, "important" songs, because I don't consider songs like Earth Day, Triumph, or Pixillate, to be really what I'm talking about. I mean the ones with the just the big, usually really simple guitar parts.

And yeah, I forgot Planet Rain...

Planet Rain is totally underrated IMHO

To me OM is not about the complexity of the songs or great and cathcy riffs, it's about the great feeling (trance) that it gives to you.
