So, generally...

It seems like most of you have one album, usually Terria or Ocean Machine that is your favorite Devy album, but it always seems like Infinity is right behind that album, a lot of the time. Is that what has happened a lot?
Because on most polls here Infinity seems to get overlooked. I think it is my favorite Devy album right now, probably because of the sheer power of the album. I mean, yea, it can't touch that personal feeling of Terria, the atmosphere of OM or the overall excellence of Synchestra, but it has enough of those qualities to stand strong and the sheer power and volume of the album blows me away.
Maybe this belongs in the Infinity forum, but I'm putting it here because I'm asking if indeed Infinity is your second favorite Devy album...and why you don't like it as much as others.
Thanks!

Yeah I'm interested too, I always get mad at the hiding it gets in the polls. I think it's leagues ahead of the others... Terria is the only one that comes close.

Ok, before Synchestra (which may or may not be my new favorite DTB album, I haven't decided yet), "Infinity" was without a doubt my favorite album (though "Terria" would sometimes threaten the coveted #1 spot).
When I came here, I was surprised to see OM being so popular, while "Infinity" being much less so. But this is usually the case with my tastes...I seem to drift towards the not-so-popular stuff.

I think it because as an album it takes a long time to "get". Took me the best part of a year.

It is indeed leagues ahead, but to me it's in terms of layering and production. It's one of the most massive things I've ever heard, and it IS awesome...but I just don't feel the "God" thing on, say, Truth (sorry Greg

). I can't help to think that Devin wasn't feeling that good when he did Infinty, so it kind of brings me down a bit. But, even if it's not my number one Devy album it's very very close behind. Like, an inch or so.

Infinity is my favourite album of all time. There has yet to be a piece of music that has had more of an effect on me than this album. Every Dev album comes close, but Infinity just makes the most sense to me personally.

Infinity was the first album of Dev's that made me realise I was dealing with a genius. It is an album of exquisitely controlled chaos, and I think it is an amazing reflection of a deeply troubled mind at a certain point in time. Each album has had its own 'heart and soul', something that distinguishes it from the others. But I think that Infinity is the most unique piece of work that Devin has ever produced. Unique. I can't say that it is my favourite album of his, but in a strange way I put it on a pedestal above the others. For me it is in its own category. It is extremely special.

I agree with what everyone said above. Infinity is probably the most meaningful piece of 'art', i suppose, that Devin has made (I dunno if you get what I mean but I can't really be bothered explaining it). But I just don't feel the songs are as good as Terria or Infinity to be honest. Nothing on Infinity matches the last 4 tracks of OM or Earth Day/Deep Peace on Terria. My 2 cents.
However, Infinity definitely took me the longest to "get" out of all of the Dev albums. Kind of like Lateralus took me a long time to get into. Before I got into Tool and Metallica I didn't even acknowledge the fact that music was about more than a catchy song..... then I actually sat down and listened to Master Of Puppets and Aenima..... ah the good times...

I love Infinity. I love Ocean Machine. I love Terria. I love Synchestra. All pertty much equally.
Physicist and Accelerated Evolution are close behind, because I don't know those as well as the others yet.
It's pretty much the reason I refuse to vote in Best Albums polls. I just can't pick a favourite, it depends on my mood!!

Infinity is my favourite Devy album, closely followed by Synchestra. Ocean Machine used to be my favourite. Come to think of it, every album by Devin, possibly save Physicist and Synchestra (though that one is still growing on me, after about 20 listens), has been my favourite at one time or another.

I would suggest that OM is the hardest to comprehend. It's a grower. The reason it's so popular is because once it finally gets under your skin nothing will remove it.

For me, I don't really like Bad Devil, Wild Colonial Boy, or Ants all that much. They just don't move me. Now, that being said, I love Truth, Christeen, Dynamics, and Unity. Noisy Pink Bubbles is real good too. But, for my money and taste, Ocean Machine has far more good songs on it. I love Seventh Wave, Night, Life, Regulator, Funeral, and Bastard. And, Terria just has such a great flow and feel to it.
I would like Infinity a lot more if it had Sit In the Mountain, Processional and OM on it.
So, for me, Ocean Machine just satisfies. Terria takes me away. Infinity doesn't always engage me.

When i bought Ocean Machine and had time to listen to it i was like Holy fuck this is just amazing!! that album hit me in so many ways its indescribable, but as a follow up, Infinity is so good, how can you come up with 2 albums one after the other that are just so damn good? I really love infinity, even though OM just tips it (i think because the songs are more epic), Infinity is just a one off, or one in a million. The production alone is just off tap. All the background noises and synths, thats what does it for me. I'll put it on when even now after a million listens and i still can find new things.
When Dev writes a song its like he writes 10 songs but puts them in the 1 song, its that dense and complex! This is especially true with Infinity. Because its the second Devin album i bought it will hold a special place for me above most of the others (except OM). So yes definatlely underrated in my opinion but its all good in the end right?
