Very tough question...... it has taken me this long to respond to it....
Ocean Machine is the winner for me ! I personally think that is the best album that Devin has put out in his SYL or Solo/DTB carreer. There are too many incredible songs on that record and it is the most consistent album he's done, in my opinion. OM is the one album I can listen to from start to finish at any given time and it always puts a smile on my face ! OM also turned me into a huge Devin fan when I heard it for the first time, it blew me away ! All his solo efforts are amazing but this one sticks out so much to me. Simply a brilliant album.

You were tempted to pick AE weren't you?

it's been only a while since i first heard any music from dev and i haven't got to hear everything, but at the moment i'd go for OM or AE.. Depth Charge was the first song i heard and i've been listening to it quite many times during last weeks.
but it was the death of music that turned the scale for OM.

I call on Jupiter, the Ruler of the Gods,
show us the way from damnation to salvation.
I call on Mars, the Ancient god of War,
grant me the power to free me from this evil.

Well, let me add my two cents...
My favourites remain Terria and Infinity (plus the Christeen+4 demos ep).
I don't know exactly why...Maybe they're to me some kind of stream of counsciousness, always hitting my mind.

This is such a hard question - each album has such different peaks and valleys. A favourite album today can be a different one tomorrow, just depending on your moods, and even events/thoughts that occur to you while listening.
I think OM is the most accessible to the non-initiated, with Terria being for those who want to delve deeper into the psyche. I had thought Fizzysist was the weakest until recently, when i had a musical epiphany, and now it all makes sense. With all of the albums, the more you listen, the more you learn - and that's what it's all about.

I hope i didn't brain my damage...

SO true....I listened to Infinity SOOOOooo much when I first got it....I learnt something...not sure what. Made me insane.

"Mongo only pawn in game of life..."
I would say OM because it evoked the most emotion in me and is a work of genius! It just seems that albums touches me the most, its spooky how much it has been the soundtrack to my life!
after that infinity, then all the rest of them which are all great in thier own ways, i think i still need to give AE more of a listen even though ive had it since it came out , the albums jus ttake so long to sink in which is a good thing

yay
Terria, even though all of the albums rule, the fact that Earth Day is so awesome caused me to vote for this album.
I love them all, but Ocean Machine really stuck with me. Its one of those cd's that I listened to at a certain time so it brings back many memories of things, so I'll say Ocean Machine.
I think it has to do with time, the longer a cd has been with you, the more it feels like its been a part of you and therefore its very hard for another cd to match it..... Whereas new fans who buy the cds in no particular order have more of a fair playing field as to which album connects with them the greatest.

I completely agree there.
Physicist was my chosen fave because it was my introduction to his music. Planet Rain was a true masterpiece in my eyes, i lost count of how many times i listened to it but then again, i have been the same with each of his other albums when i have listened to them. its too hard to choose just one though, since they all channel different emotions in me. its a pity that Physicist and AE are so overlooked on here because they are both amazing albums. i cant compare them to each other coz they stand on their own as masterpieces

I agree completly, it works this way for every artist I listen to, I just happen to listen to DTB or Strapping more than most other artists

All 5 of Devin Townsend's solo projects are more than worth their place in any cd collection. It's difficult to try and rate the best album, especially when the albums are all so different. And therefore easy to like all of them for different reasons.
I voted for Terria.
