I like meat. Call me weak or uncreative or unenlightened or whatever, but I'll be busy not caring as I guzzle down a big juicy steak with some spareribs, hamburgers and chicken wings on the side. 8)

OMGWTFBBQ indeed.

drown anything in enough Reggae-Reggae sauce and I'll eat it. Dev, if you haven't tried it, expect it to destroy your culinary world in a wave of slightly homoerotic delight.

Linda McCartney brand makes some killer vegetarian sausages and mincemeat too. If i was committed enough and needed to lose some weight by cutting out meat id survive on those, wholemeal bread, reggae-reggae and earl grey tea.

OH and my girlfriend makes the most amazing lentil burgers. I'll ask her for the recipe if anyone's interested!

Ah but does your girlfriend make amazing wholemeal bread?

If you want to get connected to what you eat, make your own bread. And pasta for that matter. I guarantee it will be way better than anything you buy in any normal supermarket or non-artisanal bakery, and the zen of the whole ritual and discipline of doing it every day will do wonders for your inner being. If you want to really connect with yourself and the earth, grind your own flour.

You may think I am shitting you here, but i assure you I am not.

Don't even get me started on cheesemaking. Not for nothing did they say "Blessed are the cheesemakers" in Life of Brian.

Yeah again, it's just been a part of my life for so long I rarely think about it...

I wasn't trying to come off as judgmental or aggressive in either my pro or con meat stance. I agree it's how you're wired.

'There's an ass for every chair'

I wrote that the other night, I found a vegi spot in Vancouver open late, and it was full of self righteous, 21 year old university students smugly discussing allegory and condemning carnivores, plus the service was shit and it took a hell of a long time to get the food (which was good ...)

My grandfathers died this year, and I inherited an old leather bomber jacket from one who was in the war. The condemnation was palpable.

Sorry to come off as a dick,

I'm vegetarian, have been for 20 or so years, and I'll never appear in a Peta ad :)

And the reggae sauce sounds sweet...basically, all my food is a vehicle for hot sauce...

Reggae Reggae goes with everything :D Levi Roots (the guy who makes it) has a takeaway up the road from me, it's a pretty fine establishment 8)

I eat meat, and as my uncle is the UK director for Danish bacon, I'd be disowned if I didn't :P But as a result, I know how it's raised, treated and killed, and have done since I was teeny. I don't have a problem with it, and I don't have a problem with people who arn't a meatylicious fan. I do have a problem with people calling me a bad person for it!

It's awesome stuff, Dev. Highly recommended!

I do hope he sings his signature sauce song (As seen on Dragons Den) :

Meat is good. I'm sorry Dev I eat McDonalds at least once every 3 days I'm a horrible person I know

I actually quit the drugs myself and I do find I'm alot more motivated to do things and have a much clearer thought process and I like to think you've played some part on helping me achieve this dude due to your posts about quitting and whatnot and through the months I saw in myself alot of the things you described about yourself and for that I thank you Devskies :)

My girlfriend's decided she wants to be a vegan. She hasn't forced her opinion on anyone else, and she's explained it whenever her friends and family and my friends skeptically ask her why she's doing it, and then not-so-subtly condemn her for it. I still eat meat, but I support her decision, and I think reading this thread will help make her feel better about the people who don't understand it.

Everything I've read and seen about musicians and drugs makes me glad I've never used them - although Tool appear to be the exception to the rule :? I wonder if drugs have affected them in negative ways as well that we just don't hear about...

Speaking of college kids in trendy places, and Ziltoid would appreciate this...am I the only one who actually buys good ol' regular coffee at a coffee stand/shop?
EVERYONE is ordering non-fat, no-whip, sugar-free, vanilla foam flavored lattes. I thought it was because I work in a upscale area filled with snooty people. But I think around universities it's even worse! Not trying to diss college students. I was one too! But I didn't ever get into the trendy scarf-wearing fancy coffee drinks. I guess the whole youth rebellion thing never struck a vibe in me. I was a metal head in a death/thrash metal band. I smoked Marlboro mediums. I drank black coffee, and busch light. I have tattoos of the Sepultura S on my right shoulder and the cover of Mercyful Fate's "Don't Break the Oath" on the left shoulder. That was enough rebellion for me I guess.

I don't smoke anymore, I drink good beer and single Islay malts (though rarely drink at all), good coffee, still black only, and am still a metal head with a wider variety of tastes. No longer in the thrash/death metal band though. Life's circumstances kinda messed that up.
If that band got back together it would be weird. If I were up on stage at this point in my life, screaming "as entrails cover the fucking ground..." and "let's see how you feel now as your face meets the crowbar?" - it would just seem like a play. For entertainment value only, with no meaning, like pro wrestling.
Thinking about that, I guess I can really understand why Dev can't do SYL anymore. It ends up becoming a parody.

Although for me, it would feel great to sing and perform some of those songs again with my old band. I still have days where my 18-year-old "fuck the world" lyrics fit perfectly. I should check into doing a reunion. We're all geographically close to each other now. There's no reason we can't do it. We'll just be more than twice the age of the people attending. And my kids can't come to the show either. :)
Dammit...now i wanna do it. I've just inspired myself with this post, and it had nothing to do with the topic. Thanks you guys. You're great! :D

This is just a general note, not that everyone here needs it. If someone is vegetarian and mentions (politely) they will not be indulging in meat dishes in a group meal, please don't view this request alone as an invitation to begin a debate on the topic of eating versus not eating meat. Understand that this person may just want to eat dinner and not change your mind.
