Argh, too hard. I'll try, but I really hate comparing his albums to each other. It's like a mom having a favourite kid, or something. Lol.

Not to mention it changes slightly every now and then!

At the moment;

* OM
* AE
* Ki
* Terria
* Addicted
* Synchestra
* Ziltoid
* Physicist
* Infinity

It upsets me to have those last 3 down the bottom there, I don't like seeing them on the bottom of anything. But OM & AE have always been tied for 1st for me, and Ki and Addicted have booted Synchestra & Ziltoid down the list. Terria hasn't moved, lol.

Whoever person does these fav stuff must really like to give people headaches. I know I do, 'cause I feel that every dev album is good to listen to, depends on my mood. right now I'm taking more time off terria, and listening a lot more to OM and Addicted as well as a bit of Accelerated Evolution.

But I guess their are people that do not connect well with one of more of his albums. That their are a few albums that they only listen to because it suits their style of music (SYL-ish records perhaps?) or maybe its cause it was their first dev solo album they listened to. For that matter that could be why they want to join in with these forums. I don't know, just my say on this.

For the sake of it, I make just be thoughtful here for a moment, and say that if I would have a fav record for now, It would most definitely be:

Ziltoid The Omniscient

Reasons:

Because, it is the only concept album that I can listen to, close my eyes, and imagine what is happening through the earphones. For example, at the end of by your command, you hear the dialogue and the rhythmic guitars. I mean, you can just feel the tension coming as the humans are taking positions, awaiting for Ziltoid's arrival.

Also, in about 1 minute in of Planet Smasher, when you hear the sounds of chanting and Ziltoid awaiting for the planet smasher, you can imagine Ziltoid walking up to some ritual like ground and seeing the planet smasher awaken from his resting place. Kinda like that scene from Peter Jackson's King Kong, except theres Ziltoid the Omniscient and the Planet Smasher looks like a giant jubba the hut, but with skullet, goatee, and dark sunglasses :guitar: . Don't ask, for some reason when I imagine this, that always comes to me head.

It is practically like a story being told as I listen to each song, very nice expression of music there, I'm excited just thinking about the next Ziltoid sequel. Funny plot, yes, but it suits my sense of humour just fine :P , plus, the Ziltoid character manages to play a solo before the humans and continues commenting on how simple the shredding solo is (Ziltoidia Attaxx): Now why can't people like Steve Vai say that to themselves more often? Bwahaha.

I was actually thinking of posting a new topic here to discuss how perfectly made that album was, in terms of its concept and the imagery it creates in my head for instance. But I thought I stick it all here, since this is a fav album thing and I just had to let it out. I still have to think how the story continues in Color Your World and The Greys, I don't quite understand whats happening.

It's impossible for me to identify my "favorite" Townsend album. They are all great and I like different ones depending on my mood.

But I think the most "inspiring" albums are:

1.) Ocean Machine - one of my favorite records of all time
2.) Terria
3.) Ki

Same reason for me to pick OM as my fav album. Funeral is just so awsome track! Naturally all the Devin albums are just magnificent! If I had to top my all time favourite albums, all the DT albums would be on top of that chart. :)

I'm think maybe it's because he didn't start gaining all the attention he recieves now until after that album. And, it is just so weird and lovely and different.

I know that for me, I have to be in the right mindset to listen to it. When I am, it's the most amazing album ever - and I listen to it on repeat, haha.

In my opinion, Terria is the best and most beautiful album ever made by anyone on this planet!

(Maybe some alien in another galaxy made something way better, but we wouldn't know...)

Hmm...I'd like to think it was Ziltoid; however, I feel like that might be because I listened to it yesterday. I remember having the same feeling about Ki last week, Alien and AE before that...hell, they're all damn good!!!

For me, Ocean Machine is the gateway and wormhole. It encompasses more of the total package that is Dev than most of his other albums, in my opinion. And, honestly, it has the most emotional resonance for me.
