Am I the only who thinks Porcupine Tree are really, really mellow? I just can't see Ptree & DTB as a good match-up. Hmm.

Other than that, a tour with Opeth on the west coast would be nice. *cry*

PT have mellow songs but could play the more heavy ones with DTB without a problem. I just saw a concert by them on TV (yes, TV!!!) on Sunday and their set was not really that mellow. They played quite a bunch of rocking songs.

Have you heard In Absentia, Deadwing and Stupid Dream? They have a lot of heavy rock songs that would sit real well alongside DTB. Plus the mellower PT set would be a great dynamic to the heavier DTB set. Each would make the other stand out more and thus draw more attention to each.

Haven't heard Stupid Dream, but I have the other 2. I'm thinking I need to revisit their catalog again.

I saw Porcupine Tree live twice last year, and both times were absolutely stunning. The mellow songs are all the more hypnotic on stage. The more rock-y tracks are incredibly energetic also. They sometimes seem to change the songs quite a bit for the live format. For example, the track 'Deadwing' was very heavy on stage, with very different drumming. Likewise with tracks such as 'Open Car'.

On stage I think PT and DTB are very similar.

Sounds like you aren't that famaliar with them. When they toured with Opeth during the Damnation tour they rocked... hard.
