It would actually be an audio recording using the Edirol R-09HR with some external mics, so no video to capture your buff-ness unfortunately. But audio can be just as pleasing, and that's what I'm hoping for :D

And to everyone, I'd be happy to share the results assuming I don't screw anything up.

That would be very nice.

I will be going to Either Detroit or Toronto specifically to film DTP. I have a true HD Cannon camera and would like to film from a tripod. If anyone else is going to the same dates, we should talk if you are planning to record audio/video.

Hey Dev! You mind if I patch into the board?

Yeah I'm cool with it, and I'm cool with youtube etc.

Not down with making and profiting off of bootlegs...but you know, I'm weird that way.

Not tapping off the board though, I'm pretty particular with the sound.

I'm cool with video taping, just be reasonable of course. I don't have control over club policies etc, so there you kind of take your chances...

I'm cool with it in the same way I'm cool with downloading. Share the love, don't be a prick.

Who even still sells bootlegs these days?

I mean not that I disagree with your stance Dev, but I just kinda figured with the internet and all, the prospect of selling a bootleg is too much effort for what it's worth.

Fans sharing fan videos, that's cool.

Just get 2 or 3 guys with a camera, record the sound off the board, slap in on a DVD and sell it through HDR! We'll have Official Bootleg 2010 :D

high def vid and audio done from external mics (flac plz) awesome guys. i sure hope your able to do it. that file's gona be huge though. 20+Gb im guessing if its the whole show. i personally would like to see a 720p h264 flac version. its the happy medium between absolute quality and file size.

Had to ask about the board... Sometimes people are cool with it. I do understand that there could be licencing problems depending on the setlist and what rights you've retained to the songs.

I wouldn't even consider selling it. I've even contributed to groups that "liberate bootlegs" (get extorted by the taper for obscene amounts of $$ in return for a supposed master clone or original master). I collect live boots from all my favourite artists, although, solo Dev and SYL have been hard to track down. Some boots can even be better than official releases. There is a group close to Mastadon that gets permission to vid and record local shows. I would watch one of their boots before I watched anything Mastadon put out themselves. Buckethead is pretty great with taping as well. I have some really nice DVD-9's of hi-def multi-camera boots. Some even have SBD audio. At the end of the day, I feel the same way about boots as I do drugs. If it were completely open and legal, there would be no black market for it. Because some artists are dicks about it, it creates a secondary market for assholes to hoarde and profit from masters that are not circulated freely. The way I see it, if you can't cope with being recorded, don't play in public.

If the artist isn't going to put out a document of the tour, they should encourage taping. Think back over the years, was there ever a show that you wish you had a document of? Even Jimmy Page had to resort to Bootlegs to put together that Zep DVD set from a few yrs ago. I would rather watch any boot of almost any artist than listen to studio recordings. The proof is in the pudding live. Especially in the days of auto-tune. The other nice thing is having a steady stage shot with minimal close-ups. That way, all the fans with epilepsy can watch the show instead of being sent into fits by constant unecessary cutting/editing a la anything Metallica does.

I feel that live videos are nothing but free promotion for the artist. If I can get a good place and tripod it, I'll make the source file available to whoever wants it. If there's more than 1 taper, I'll offer my master for multi-cam or matrix audio mixes. Hell, I think everyone should be able to see you live. I've spent thousand$ myself seeing you over the years. Some folks don't get that opportunity. If I can tape and share with them than everyone wins.

On a side note, I talk a big game but I don't know the first thing about mixing matrix audio or synching video. All I can do is provide a master.
