The Human Equation probably doesn't count, but that's where I first heard Dev. Apparently he was in some band called Strapping Young Lad and the first thing I encountered from that is Alien. Took me a good while to learn to appreciate it, but when it clicked and learned about him having solo stuff I ended up buying Accelerated Evolution, and probably Synchestra not long after.

That was Terria. I can't forget the listening experience to it. It was like discovering new planet, a new world. One of the coolest things in my short life.

I know Devin's solo work thanks to Strapping Young Lad's "Detox" videoclip on Mtv Rock.

Good memories.

Accellerated Evolution was first for me, then SYL (feather) slightly after, though I remember seeing an ad for Physicist waaay back in an old metal hammer (forgive me i was 14/15, back in 2000/2001) magazine with the whole "mad professor" thing going on, that cracked me up :D - shoulda checked him out then lol! Next was Ocean Machine and by the time it hit "Voices in the Fan" I was hooked for life!

Not countable, for Devin was only on 3 songs...which are the 3 songs which didn't suck horribly on that album all the way through.

This was actually my introduction to wanting Devin Townsend's solo work. His performance on Pain is just wonderful. School was cool and Loser is phenomenal. I remember thinking very highly of him when I found out that he asked to write his own parts.

Same here, I didn't know too much about Dev when I bought Human Equation, and if you ask me, Dev should have been in at least 3 more songs.

Infinity - a pen-friend taped me over half of it back when I was into punk and only punk. Later as my tastes thankfully began to widen/move on I remembered the tape, dug it out, and ordered the CD. Christeen was like nothing I'd heard before :)
OM followed very quickly afterwards and that was it, I was hooked 8)

i'd heard and seen some pics of this ugly dude going nuts on stage from metal magazines entitled "strapping young lad"
I was about to turn the ripe age of 15, 12 years ago. i was in a second hand cd shop, and i picked up "no sleep till betime" i said out loud "i wonder if this is any good?" , this scary man heard me and came over "that would be the best thing you could ever possibly by from here" and i'm like "is it metal??! is there double kick??!" he's like "only the best youll ever hear!" after my purchase i jumped back onto the school bus with my headphones and listened away, probably the best opening i've ever heard still to this day to a metal gig. absolutely blown the fuck away. then i got myself Ocean machine which basically changed my life to its entirety musically. i cant even tell you how many times i would have listened to OM back in those days, i've bought 3 copies of it because i've used the cds too much and they get scratched etc..........ahhhhh the good ol days!!!!!

City for me. Once I heard that I knew who he was, THEN.....

I heard him sing two tracks on James Murphy's Convergence album, THEN......

That made me want to check out a solo album which ended up being his new one at the time which was Terria, THEN....

I bought every friggin album to do with Dev!
