I know I said seeing Hyperdrive done with Anneke would be awesome (and it still would be) but for the last day or so I've had Sit in The Mountain stuck in my head in such a way that if I don't end up hearing it live, I might have to claw my own eyes out to remove it, if just for a little while.

...or maybe a rerecorded version?

So I may have to change my choice.

..can't wait

For the record we did do a re-recording of 'Sit in the Mountain" during the Synchestra recordings. Never got released though or I was never told about it. I thought the re-recorded version turned out awesome but I honestly thought the original was perfect! Whether it's played live or not is up to Dev but I don't think that song has been mentioned yet.

There are so many tunes to choose from!!!!! So many awesome songs to choose from, it makes choosing a setlist VERY difficult! One thing is for sure, whatever setlist we do WILL kick some ass!

Best,

RVP

Its going to have to be BASTARD,that was the first Devy track I ever heard,
heard it in a record store, and the first really inspiring track I'd heard in 16 years.
We're coming from South Africa to see this!If not Bastard then Gaia or Suicide.

Perhaps you should mention it on the sly lol

..you know, maybe write cards or something with pre-prepared sentences about sitting in mountains for those sort of occasions?

Dev: (something about green tea)

RVP: I love drinking tea while sitting in mountains, speaking of which.... etc

..might work? :)

edit: or maybe an acoustic version for the 4th album - recorded while actually sitting on a mountain - I'd love to hear that too

..maybe I should get a life lol

That set list is amazing. That is seriously some of my favorite songs.

If I were to add my two cents then I'd say that Ki is missing. Now I Know Ki must be a hard song to pull off live with all it's layers intact but it could be amazing. I think Ki would be absolutely perfect as the last song before the encore or as the final encore song. The idea of ending with "I know yes I know we all go awaaaaaaaaaay." would be a just perfect. I think the emotional impact that would leave is just spine chilling. Such an awesome way to say goodbye.

For a festival that's a little harder to say what should be played. It depends on the festival of course but Namaste is the first song I play for people who haven't heard any Devin Townsend songs. People are blown away by that song. The universal reaction is "Holy fuck! Is that real?"

After that I'd say that The Greys is one of the best songs you've ever written. It's a real honest to god hit song. I've done my personal unscientific social experimentation with this song. I was in a tiny bar with 3 people in it with nothing going on except playing requests. The doors were wide open to the street. By the time The Greys was almost over the bar was packed. A few minutes after the song was over the bar was empty again. Take that for what you will but to me the results were obvious. People heard that song while walking by and decided that this bar is the place to be. There are plenty of other bars nearby to choose from and I've noticed a correlation to attendance and popular songs many times before.

Of course take all this with a grain of salt since I haven't heard Addicted yet.

That's quite amazing, really. I wouldn't have believed that The Greys could work like that.
