Hi peeps - my first post!!

Devin seems to be ridiculously prolific and I'm curious if anyone knows how many albums with Strapping and solo albums he has sold worldwide, even roughly?

Thanks in advance!

Actually I'd suspect it's several hundreds. Maybe over one thousand.

...Seriously, I haven't seen any numbers. Only things I know for sure is that he should sell more.

Several hundreds? Over one thousand? Are you being serious? Ki sold 800 copies in the first week. City sold over 9000 in it's first week. I would say the number is closer to 100-200 thousand in total.

I find your lack of humor disturbing.

That is still upwards of 116.

The 116 was amusing, the hundreds to thousands wasn't.

Maybe we could calculate it using some novice arithmetics. If everyone here posts how many CD's he has, and we add them all up, we get a number x. If we divide this number x by the number of members on this forum, then multiply with 6 billion (the number of people on the earth), we should get approximately the number of Hevy Devy related albums in this world.

Easy peasy :D

Yes. Sounds like very few - surely SYL wouldn't have that many!? From what I figure the only album that went big was City, and the solo stuff is far superior.

I'm sure Alien and The New Black sold loads too, more than City probably, because they got much more attention from a larger audience (read: more promo attention from the label). And you may think that Dev's solo stuff is superior to SYL, but there's no way in hell he's sold even nearly as many solo records as SYL records. Although I think Synchestra, Ziltoid and Ki did quite well.

The New Black ain't that different or heavier than some of the solo stuff and the reviews I've read have always been consistently good for both 'sides', so is the conclusion that there's more marketability in the name SYL than Devin Townsend?!!?

Edit: sorry, I wrote the above but missed where you said 'label promotion' which may explain the difference.

Anyway, back to the question; isn't there some site that gives out sales numbers? If not, what's the best way of finding out?

To be honest, I'm not sure anyone knows the exact figures. Well I suppose the record label keeps track of how many albums are manufactured and shipped to various distributors. But all the organisations that try to gather information about record sales and airplay and such seem to mess up all the time so I wouldn't say any of that is accurate.

Besides, I fail to see why it matters.
