I really like the combination of a stereo onboard mic and the option of using another 2 xlr inputs for live recording. I was using sm58's for jamroom stuff. Any recommendation on mic's for gig recording?

I've heard that the Zoom is fairly serviceable for concert recordings, but investing in some external microphones would probably be a good idea.

I'm very new to the recording ("taping") scene, but I was recommended various mics from soundprofessionals.com by several people. I decided on a low-budget $60 pair of omni mics (SP-BMC-9) - http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-b ... m/SP-BMC-9

As you can tell from the sound of my recordings of Dev's shows, these little mics are pretty good considering the price. Obviously there are better mics to be had, but I think the BMC-9s are a great deal. Check out what that site has to offer.

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into them.

I picked up the Zoom because it has 2 XLR inputs allowing you to simultaneously record a stereo track with the internal mics and 2 mono tracks through the XLR inputs (with 24/48 phantom power). Overall, I am mildly satisfied. I do not like the interface at all and there is a bit of a learning curve using the device. I do think it has the potential to make great recordings once I master the device itself.
