I thought SYL were "bigger" than Nile...
When was it? Where was it?

This was quite a while ago, hmm...probably 2002, and it was at some club in Hollywood, I dont remember which one. Mid-size, not too big. SYL was before Dark Tranquillity, Napalm Death and Nile. I don't know how they would rank in popularity now.

Obviously it - his constant "moving around" - indicates commercial concerns is not of prime concern for Dev. And I would not like it any other way. Just think, if commercial concerns were of prime importance his mobility would never have transpired and we would not have the music we do have from him.

Just my thoughts anyway.

Radio=Devlab, Space and Time=The Hummer
Temper and Beauty=Ki

Infinity=???

I believe Physicist's theme is "false hope", like he said in an interview once. I would rate "chaos" with pretty much anything SYL does, or did :(

Infinity is best if you don't approach it with a theme in mind, imo. It has such open-ended metaphors and messages.....like the end of "Soul Driven", the "Birth has occured...." part. Those words got me through the worst depression of my life, and they have meant something for the best times also, so it isn't literal.....again=imo. Also Infinity was supposed to be the "parent" to City and OM, so maybe think of it that way? I dunno. I love the album so much, sometimes I want to MAKE people love it as much as I do, but I have to understand that I have no control over that.....sooooo.....

I enjoy it most for the music....

Infinity = infinity

no beginning, no end.

Take some shrooms or something. :D

I think it's a good he changed his project names cos his stuff is so varied. Using the same name would most likely drive away the marginal fans who might hear 2 albums, like one and hate the other and not bother buying any more.

You know it's intriguing to me to read all this stuff about "themes". I'm on way the other side of the spectrum on all of this stuff...and don't analyse any of it. I don't think about what any of it "means"...it just "is" and prefer to get lost in the sound of it all rather than even paying attention to what the words are saying a lot of the time. He does, after all, use some lyrics solely for the sound rather than the meaning of the words. I've got all of my 'devymetal' loaded as a single playlist on my iPod and I just rotate through it over and over. I pick a point at which to start depending on my mood...Earth Day/Deep Peace/Canada have been the starting points for the past couple of weeks...before that it was Triumph or Vampolka for a couple more...etc etc...and it is all blissful.

I agree with this totally (except for the Ipod part. Don't have one, never will have one). I take notice of the lyrics to an extent, but in no way do I analyse them to within an inch of their lives like some obviously do. And yes I'm sure Dev does use alot words/phrases for their sound and metre rather than meaning, like the vast majority of songwriters would, and so this renders all this analysis a little redundant in my opinion. It's Rock music, not Shakesperean verse...
