It must be just a matter of time, the album is done, artwork is finished, there are copies floating around, how long will it be before synchestra gets a little kerrazy?

I'm sure Dev and co. are doing thier best to secure the album, as i'm sure all bands do, but it as we all know it rarely ever works and sure enough out comes a leak.

The question then becomes; d/l or not d/l?

With all the great words and exitement i'm not sure I will be able to resist . . .

I got the last 2 SYL albums in advance and I think it kind of spoiled it for me. I have such strong feelings about DTB and Synchestra that I will wait and make the first listen a real concentrated event. It's also 30th of Jan so I won't have to endure too long.

My plan: Go to the beach of the frozen lake Saimaa on that evening, sit near the warmth of a fire, awe at the nature, forests, nightsky and fill my ears with the unique experience that is Devin and his latest sure-to-be masterpiece Synchestra. Full attack of all senses completely immersed in the CD!!!

There will be a report.

I will wait for it, of course. It's not an easy thing to do...but makes it so much nicer to get the real thing when you do.

I had to fight the urge to download Opeths Ghost Reveries, but I succeeded! And I will succeed not downloading Synchestra.

It will be tough, leaks will be out there as soon as the promos are sent to reviewers and others. People will download it, and tell me how awesome it is. And I will resist, and it will feel good when I finally lay my hands on the actual trophy.

I'll wait. It's only going to be about 2 months, no biggie.

The same for me.
I resisted with Alien and I will resist with Synchestra.
It will be harder, because I like DTB more than SYL, but I will resist!!!

The bands that i care enough about to get really excited over imminent releases i also respect too much to downloads songs if they get leaked. I wouldn't care if it was, say, a linkin park track (not that i would!) but i would never do it for devin or the wildhearts, because it feels like i'm stealing from them.

I'll try to resist downloading. Couldn't wait for Alien, wich spoiled the whole "sit the fuck down and just listen" thing, flipping through the booklet. I think I'll order the album plus a shirt from HDR, that way I can dress up for the big first listen. :)

The only Devy album I've downloaded was Alien, and that was because I wanted to hear the work in progress as compared to the actual album...which I bought the day it came out.

Support your local Devy establishment.

Oh, and to answer the question...I shan't be downloading Synchestra.

Dude, I wish I could experience what you'll hopefully experience !

That would be the perfect way to get into this album !

Now..... I'm gonna' give you all MY OPINION on downloading.....

As far as downloading goes..... I'm not a fan for several reasons, lot's are obvious from me being a musician as well. It would totally be awsome if you bought Synchestra, when it comes out. If you do download a leak before it's out, I'm cool with it as long as you support the artist (buy the album) when the album is released. Leak's do have the odd positive note......like if any of you gave a friend a copy of Synchestra, who has never heard it or DTB before, if they like it, chances are they'll buy the album and come see us live. I know it has a couple positive points but the negatives do out-weigh the positives.

I'm the first to admit that I download leaks sometimes. For example, I had "Catch 33" by Meshuggah, way before it was officially released, but when it was released, I bought the album the day it was released to support the artist.

This is just my point of view. I feel strongly about it though. We do work really hard in the DTB and are not even close to making huge, great money from it, we're working hard to get to a higher status. Downloading does'nt stop us from putting out the best album we can for you guys but it can suck for us as an artist, financially, and if the money ain't there down the road.....there will probably be no money for the DTB to make records.....that's the way it is in this industry whether we like it or not or whether you, the fans, like it or not.

The greatest thing that does'nt worry me at all, is the fact that we have very supportive DTB fans. For this reason alone, I'm not really worried about the future of this band as we grow and our fanbase grow's with us !

Just my two cents on the topic....

yeah i feel like crap after i've downloaded an album i've been really lookin forward too (ex:Alien) but there was one plus side to it,i had a couple of my friends listen to it and next thing you know, they gave me the money and i'm buyin 3 copies of Alien on it's release date,i actually own 2 copies of Alien myself hehhe :) ,but to at least help with having the album be a new listen i had downloaded alien sometime in Feb.,when Feb. 22 came around i erased my Alien leak and threw out my burned copy and didn't listen to anything from Alien exactly one month from the release date so that kinda helped with the freshness

Downloading music was the way I heard about Devin Townsend band actually, so like you said, not entirely bad. Well, actually it was a couple step process, see phycho cover for S.Y.L. buy, love and then find more Devin stuff and like. Most likely, without downloading stuff, I would still be listening to the more mainstream Korn, Metallica, Foo Fighters (still love them), and stuff like that. While I'm not a mainstream hater, I enjoy finding bands in the underground scene and downloading is one of the only ways a person can search for those bands because their CD's aren't in your normal stores.

Since downloading all the DTB albums, I have bought them whenever I could find them, even when I couldn't afford it and had to borrow money. So now I only have 3 of them, but am going to get the rest when I see them. Downloading has also made me a more causious consumer, I would much rather sent my money to you guys than to Sony (don't think I should have bought the new Foo Fighters CD's...it's great, but I can't listen to it on my computer because of DRM, it was a complete waste of money). I am able to find those bands that need my money more and send it to them.

Last point, I downloaded Alien before it came out and it never spoiled it for me...I actually like the older version of Love? I got better, heh, although We Ride is MUCH better on the finished version. So I will do the same with Synchestra, but I will buy it when I see it, there's just no telling how long I would have to wait after it's release to get it.

You guys have to tour through Saskatoon so I can pick up this stuff, heh, if you do, I'll be filling out my collection.

I think fans will buy Synchestra anyways, no matter what. I can't imagine that any DTB would not buy it. And I think for bands that are not really mainstream, leaks are the perfect promo. That's how I got to know many bands and why I spend most of my money for CD's and that's why I'm chronically broke...fuck you, internet!!! I guess I just can't download it because I'm too involved now and I hate feeling guilty
