Just wanted to know Dev, Ryan, Beavis, you've repeated we'll have to listen to it from start to finish and it takes a while to unfold, so ok, but what about the lyrics ?
Are they important for the "unfolding" ? :þ

Cuz' as I've already said a few times on this board, not being an english native, and despite I can more or less understand the vocals (well, when they're not to much screamed^^), I let me drive by the voice sound (and the music of course), wayyyyy more than by the lyrics meaning (sometimes I find a song quite enjoyable (I maen in-a-positive-mood-way), then a few months later I decide to read the lyrics, and realise it wasn't such a happy song for instance).

So if the lyrics are important (if the songs are linked by the lyrics), I'll take more care about them^^.

Good question man,

To me, I don't really know the lyrics myself, just the beautiful and awesome vocal melodies that Devin sang on the record. I have to wait for the CD REPLACE myself to know all the lyrics.... I only know the lyrics I can pick out from listening to the album.

My answer would be "No" you don't really have to know the lyrical content. I made my opinion on the album wihtout knowing all the lyrics ! It's musically uplifting, epic, emotional and fun.

Now, at the same time I don't want to insult what Devin wrote lyrically either. His lyrics may mean alot on this album but I'm just letting you know that just the music and vocal melodies alone will 100% give you the effect of what I'm talking about in my review, if you listen to the album from start to finish.

Hope that answers your question.

Funny story. I had lost touch with the metal scene for a few years. Oh, I still liked metal, but I didn't know that good metal was still being made. I mean, come on. Slipknot? Anyway, so I'm cruising through Best Buy and I see Dream Theater's 6DOIT and I go, "Hey, I remember these dudes!" So, I bought it. And dug it. Then, I look up Dream Theater on the 'Net. I find they're touring with Queensryche and Fates Warning, two of my favorite 80's metal bands. I buy tix. Meantime I start to look into the underground prog metal scene. I keep hearing about this Devin Townsend guy. I remember him, I think to myself, he was that cat what sang on Vai's "Sex and Religion" album. I heard he went industrial or something. Hmmm. So, I look up Devin on Amazon.com. Accelerated Evolution, huh? Okay, let's see the reviews....

Basically, every review of AE described as the the sound that God makes when He speaks. It was divine and sublime and majestic. I looked on here and find that all of you speak as if the music will change your life and melt your brain. The music is soooo achingly beautiful that you will burst into tears at the instant it vibrates those little hairs in your ears.

I buy AE. It arrives in the mail. I open it. Put it in the CD player.

Hmmm. Okay. That's cool and all but I didn't sh*t my pants. Yeah, I like that song Storm alright but I didn't cry.

Hmmm.

Thing was, the stuff was so f*cking hyped that I was actually let down a little. But, I learned (after buying OM and Terria and thinking the same life changing effect would occur on hearing them, too) that you sorta have to absorb Dev's music. And, what's funny now is that I actually have those feelings when I listen to the music. I love it. It's the sound of Divinity. It moves me. It just took some time.

I have a three listen rule. You have to listen to the album a minimum of three times before you can start to appreciate it. So, kids, keep that in mind on Synchestra's release date. K? :-)

Especially for Synchestra !!!!!!!! It's an intricate, epic album that can be mellow along with some rockin' points as well. 3 listens will be a minimum requirement to even take in just a little bit of the overall vibe or maybe some of you will get it after a couple listens...... who knows ? The beautiful thing for me, is every time I listen to it, I pick up something new that blows my mind.....but that's just me :P

In my opinion, this is what makes a great album. Hearing something new everytime you put it on. I love doing this with albums I have listened to a lot of times: just lie in your bed at night with headphones on and just listen. Nothing to distract you and try to hear all the 'hidden' goodies that are in there. Devin's albums are full of this kind of stuff....it's beautiful. I always find that if I have intensely listened to an album a couple of times and tried to hear all those little things, and also focused on all the different instruments seperately, you appreciate a good album so much more. I also think it does justice to the artist, like I took everything the artist put in there.
I'm kinda rambling but y'all know what I mean I guess...

Pretty well, thanks^^
After all the lyrics are often quite personnal to the author, and Devin doesn't communicate much about his lyrics AFAIK.
(That's the same for insults, the tone is more important than the word itself :þ My mum' still doesn't get it  )
I'll just pick the words here and there and built images on it in my mind, as for OM^^.

I am really looking forward to hearing the new album.

Moreso than Alien - which I've only just got round to getting from the store, odd cos I've always bought immediately since I first heard HAARHT.

I think it's because nowadays (well, since 1997 really & OM fit the bill) I prefer the happy vibes that I get from Dev's solo stuff because being happy is totally sweet.

Will be buying this on the day of release!
I'll still rock out to SYL on the 16th of December though ;)
