The picture is a lot clearer now. I see that they are technically discrete songs that flow together in a sort of unified whole. I can see now how some of the songs could be played live without doing the album in its entirety.

Although, <cocks eyebrow archly> maybe that would happen anyway. 8) Hmmm?

Anyway, I'm really interested to hear this album. I wonder if Devin or Ryan or other parties who know would be interested in commenting if the Ayreon project that Devin did (and only his parts) is in anyway indicative of the kind of sound that might be in Synchestra? I very much enjoyed those portions of the record (other parts were good, too, but those were highlights). Or, if it's more along the lines of the "Two Weeks" track from Alien.

Oh, and is that Deadwing or another PT album in the playlist, there? Deadwing is a very nice album. We likes it a lot! :)

Ahh, I can hear it in my head already. Intro noises like in Info dump, fading out.....Cue "Let it roll"... :zen:

Well maybe not, but that´s how I imagine it. :)

For me, to some extent a lot of Dev's previous albums kind of have a bit of a "one unit" feel...I never listen to selected songs from any of the albums (then again I rarely do that with any band) but I always view Devs albums, particularly Terria as a full unit

Yeah i agree with that for sure.
Definately Ocean Machine and Terria.
Less so on Physicist but with the other two i rarely think about listening to one song, perhaps Earth Day or Life, but in general its the whole album or nothing.
Ocean Machine especially has lots of leads from one song to the next and it just doesn't feel right to split them up.

Great news again Dev, it brightens up my day to hear about the new stuff.
Sounds unbelievable as usual!

True, and in addition Dev doesn't insist it actually is one song.

That sounds awesome and I cant wait! A happy and dreamy release from DTB? A song entitled "Sunbeams and Happiness"? That will be something new alright. The release date cant come soon enough!

..by the end of Synchestra, you'll be in total peace.

Who need buddhism when you've got Devin Townsend

I have always listened to music this way. I don't know what the average age around here is, but once upon a time, you had these record players things. You put the record on, you listened to the album. You could just flip to the track you like. ;) Seriously, though, I think there's a lot of albums that should be listened to as "units" rather than individual songs. I would agree, though, that Devin's music just seems more suited to that because of the flow he creates with the songs.

I agree.
I consider all Dev's albums as "One Unit", with the only exception of "Physicist".

I have always had problems listening to just certain songs on a cd. I always feel like I have to listen to the whole thing. Specially with Dev's stuff. I think I have only skipped through songs once and that was on Physicist.

I almost always listen to individual songs.

Exactly, and this is why downloading songs became so popular so quickly, nowadays, people are far more concerned with just getting the one or two songs they like. I have probably listened to specific tracks once, maybe twice this year (apart from when transcribing them), I just don't see how people can get any connection to music without experiencing albums as a whole.
