So if this the end of an era, what comes next? It seems abrupt, seeing as the DTB just formed a few years ago...

I figured he meant a personal era, not band era. What comes next? Something new! Haha, what else is new? Rejoice!

I guess it just feels like Devin is pulling a Radiohead. They both made great rock music and managed to push boundaries, but for Radiohead, after Ok Computer, they went into a completely different, but still very amazing direction. Most Radiohead fans love their modern music, but i doubt any of them wouldnt want them to continue down the path they wee headed down. I've read that Devin is getting tired of playing guitar and singing somewhere, which combined with his recent attraction to electronic music(much like Radiohead) through Echo, Devlab, Info Dump, and Hummer, makes it seem like he is going to make a large transition in his music. Bands obviously need to progress, but making such a tremendous leap can be dangerous. Look at the Smashing Pumpkins, the changes with their music eventually contributed to their downfall(not to say that there werent other factors as well.) Although, I guess if you look at Porcupine Tree, such a transition can strengthen a band and its music. Ultimately though, I guess I'm afraid that Devin will leave his solo material behind. One of his amazing abilities is to spread himself out into multiple bands and projects that make drastically different music. Terria is totally different from City, and both of them are entirely different from Devlab. The idea that he will abandon continuing his unique version of Metal/Rock is somewhat depressing.

So I guess my question for you Devin, which I would love to hear the answer to, is whether or not 'Synchestra' is your 'Ok Computer'.

After that there's no way I could just download the album and casually listen from mp3's. I'm definately waiting for the record. I need to feel it as much as listen to it.

me too! i'm never gonna download a leaked racord again. i did that with alien and it was a stoopid idea.

but hey, i'm also concerned about that end of an era-thing. i remember that devin said somewhere that he'd like to make some orchestrated music.
and also, the dtb seem to be so happy about the new borders they explored with synchestra that they'll surely go on. come on, folx, can you imagine devin not singing and playing the guitar anymore? - i can't. i'm sure they'll continue rockin' out, or at least continue making big music.

but maybe you wanna say something about that yourself, devin? what era is that you wrote about in that very interesting story?

We need the real one in our hands!

But again, if some people are able to discover your stuff thanx to downloading some songs, I think it's cool.

Just for the record, I live in Florida and you can imagine how much DTB coverage we get down here. I have been a bit of a download junkie over the years and one day I saw some tracks from something called "Ocean Machine" by some guy I'd never heard of.

Three years later, I have bought all DT/DTB releases and this Devin guy is now in my top 5 favorite artists of all time.

Having admitted my evil downloading ways, I am going to pre-order Synchestra and do my very best to have that "old fashioned" first-time listening experience: i.e. popping the newly released CD in the player with the shiny booklet in my hands. Phone off. Doors locked. Stereo cranked. Pabst on-hand. :D

Oh man, I can't wait. The way you describe it almost reminds me of a Pink Floyd album. I don't know if i can keep myself from downloading it, I'll try my best. I'll buy it for sure though, that's a guarantee.

It looks amazing!! And don't worry, I don't download. An album this powerful wouldn't have it's shine if it was downloaded.
