Hi Tracy,
Im sure its better to hear these things from you rather than via an interview transcribed from the internet.

Never say never. SYL was 'over' after City. Dev will do what he feels like - right now they are not it. Next week, who knows?

... just like the Dev we know and come to love.
Devin is a true artist, and will never be able to stop his creative flow, or he will go totally mental.
Next to that, I will know that the call of the road will catch up to him again. Making music is awesome, playing your music live to a screaming mass of fans is even better.

I have to say this, only because...well, I want to.
Dev has always done what's best for the art. Like the earth's seasons, he's presented us with the wonderful colours of fall (Terria) the cold blue of winter (Ocean Machine) the brightness of summer (Synchestra) and the hope and liveness of spring (Accelerated Evolution). As long as he chases his muse, and not the "almight buck", I think that we will all be doubleplus good happy with the results. Considering the volume of things he's done in just a mere 14 years, (counting from 1993's Sex and Religion and on), it's a wonder he hasn't gone on holiday sooner.
Whatever the future holds for Dev, I will wait and look forward to it.

He was supposed to be on a break before we even knew of Ziltoid the Omniscient being written. I'll say another 3 albums will be announced a month into this break.

The only thing that would ever really bother me is if Devin stopped recording and releasing music. I love everything he's done, but I won't be sad if SYL comes to an end. DTB, to me, has been nothing more than his solo stuff, just under the same name over two albums. I'm a fan of his art as a whole, not any particular form of that art.
Devin's thoughts are like snowflakes. They're still thoughts, but they're different every time. I pay them no mind. Haha. So just...like...lie down...and make a snow angel...or something.

Even if Devin would stop making music altogether, I wouldn't be disappointed. He already gave me plenty of wonderful soundscapes, and from now on every new album is a bonus.
I remember an Infinity-era interview where Devin stated that his albums are like children to him. He gave us more creations than we could hope for in the last 10+ years, and now he is married and has a real child. He can do whatever he wants, even quit, and I'm perfectly happy with his career as a recording artist.

Has Devin actually ever had a break? As in, just took a few months out and done absolutely nothing at all?

As long as The Dev releases music from time to time, it´s fine for me.
He gave us so much fantastic music for all state of minds.
Have a break, Dev. Have a good time with your wife and son.
But on the other hand:
I want to see you live! Never had the opportunity due to financial or scheduling problems.
There´s a german saying, which i would translate this way:
HOPE DIES LAST.
Well that´s important to me.

Exactly. Why worry about it? He is going to keep making music...there is more to Devin than SYL and DTB (think Infinity, Physicist, Terria, Devlab, etc.)

Everyone's so worried. Let's say he takes anywhere from 1 to 3 years off and makes no music at all, solo or otherwise. He'll still be one of the most prolific artists of modern music. Stop thinking of yourselves and give the man a break, which he probably won't take anyway.
