Does Devin see (has Devin seen) a vocal coach? I absolutely loved Chris Cornell on Badmotorfinger but soon after that, the power of his scream took a sharp downturn. I sincerely hope Devy takes care of his instrument, does he have an advisor or a health regimen to keep his throat together?

I believe he did at one point. I could be wrong.

He took a few lessons when he was with Vai to teach him how not to lose it on tour. Primarily, when touring he does 45 minutes of vocal warm-ups before every show. That's about it.

45 minutes of warm-ups? Wow that's long. Note that I'm far from knowing about singing techniques.

It isn't bad, after about 45 minutes warm-up, screams come so easily and cleanly.

Warming-up must take a long time when you factor in also most likely has to warm up for guitar playing too.

Cuz he's a goddamn fucking animal!!! :P

Seriously though, there are a lot of guitarists that don't do warm ups before shows. Not sure why, they just don't :?

i always do warm-ups because i have literally almost no circulation! it takes my hands soooo long to get up to speed, and it really pisses me off...

anyway, does anyone happen to know what sort of vocal excercises Mr. Townsend does for his vocal warm-ups? I'm yet to find a good routine that works well for me...

well, unfortunately i've never seen Devin (and probably will never see him :( ) live, but he's not much of a shredder on shows, right?
So guitar warming up for him prolly isn't THAT necessary. On the vocal side, though, feels like he runs a marathon every morning 1 week before the shows to keep his breath :D

I learned to make a sort of "iiiiiiyaaaaaa" noise going from low to high. Then there are other strange noises you can make. I'm not sure what Dev does

No guitar warm up? I need about an hour of practice before i sound clean.

Hey Tracy, would you happen to know some of the exercises Devin does for his vocal warm-ups? I'm very interested about this...

Repeating syllable sets "Do do do do do, Me me me me me, Gug gug gug gug gug gug, Ha ha ha ha ha" over and over at varying intensites and volumes.
