Hello Tracy. I read somewhere on the forum that you're a devoted vegetarian and I wonder if Devin is it too? Whether if is is or isn't it's funny because he's music is a big inspiration for me in my struggle to be a better person and vegetarianism is a big part of that struggle.

Hope to hear from you. Cheers!

No, he isn't. He tried to be but when on tour it is VERY difficult - I just did 6 days of it and finding stuff that you can eat is unfortunately rare.

Most eating opportunites are truck stops, whatever is provided by the venue, or restaurants nearby and most don't serve veggie options so you are stuck with a salad and bun - pretty hard to do good shows every night on that. He tries to stick to chicken and fish but sometimes even those aren't available.

I studied nutrition and vegetarianism is soooo over-rated.

By all means don't eat too much red meat and eat plenty of fish but cutting out meat is not a healthy idea.

Soy is baaaaaad and not only because it tastes like shite.

I am not going to get into a philosophical argument but there are billions of people in cultures on the planet who have been vegetarian for centuries with no ill effects.

I am not saying that one is more healthy than the other I just don't want to anything to suffer unnecessarily. For as long as there are alternatives, I choose not to eat animals.

same here. I'm not vegetarian because it's healthy. If that was the case I would have never started drinking or smoking I guess  (and I've quit both..yay) I personally don't know any vegetarian who does it for health reasons. Those "vegetarians" that do it for health reasons in most cases still eat fish and chicken or wear leather and stuff like that and that's not what vegetarianism is aboot.

I don't get it. Eating meat is the most natural thing to do, people are carnivores.
Animals eat other animals all over the world. Birds eat mice and other little critters in your back yard. Your cats eat mice and birds.
If you would see a lion attack a deer, would you try to stop it?

I think it's one of the most natural things in the world. And besides that, I think meat tastes good (that's personal tho) and it's a great source of protein and other things people need.

My friend hasn't EVER eaten meat and he's healthy as. I do appreciate the philosophical reasons for not eating meat particularly because I'm pro choice.

However we're not carnivores as carnivores eat mostly or only meat. We're omnivores "technically" but really our own will decides what we actually are.

well, yeah...they kill them themselves. I certainly couldn't kill a cow myself or any other animal as it happens in nature. And I don't see a reason for letting someone else do it for me either.

If we did things just because they were the natural thing to do we would never drive/fly/have an internet. Eating meat may be a natural thing to do, but that doesn't mean than you have to do it.

I'm not saying you have to eat meat because it's natural. Just that it's not wrong, as vegetarians seem to think. But maybe I'm missing the point.

And for not killing your own meat, that's just the way human society has evolved. Many centuries ago, humanity was self supplying. You need a house, buid one yourself. You want bread? You have to get everything you need yourself, milk your own cow, make your own butter etc, then bake your own bread. Butcher your own pig for some meat.
Over the centuries however, specialisation has hit our society, in every way, not just food.

An uncle of mine is a vegetarian, and he raises his kids as vegetarians. Those kids love meat tho. This one time they spent dinner over at our place, and they had chicken. The oldest was like 5, and he asks: "What are those sticks doing in my food? Do I have to eat them?" He had seriously never seen a chicken drumstick with a bone before.

I try to stick to only poultry or fish. I love seafood, so I can't see myself ever giving it up. If I'm at a restaurant and fish is on the menu, I will order it, or a meatless entre. I *am* under the opinion that the average person eats waaaay too much meat and not enough vegies, so aside from the killing animals factor, more vegies in the diet equals more vitamins and fiber and a leaner physique. I know too many people who eat hamburger and french fries every day and are at least 20 lbs overweight.
Gee, I wonder why.

And I know a lot of it has to do with convenience and our fast-food culture, but at some point a person needs to take accountablility for their own health and stop blaming McDonalds.

Oh, there I go...off on another tangent. I just happen to be very opinionated about why so many people are on-the-verge diabetics and my tax dollars are paying for their health problems because they're too lazy to eat right and excercise...

Sorry again....
