Just a note though, unless you're really bothered by the production of most modern albums, you may do better to download the regular version-- even that has less compression than most albums these days. Unless you're an extremely pretentious audiophile or studio owner, you probably won't notice much difference aside from the volume.

That said, if you have time set aside to listen to the album in its entirety on some decent speakers, by all means go for the uncompressed version and just crank it!

Hey dude,

I listened to the uncompressed version today. It was a most unique listening experience, and I mean that as a complement.

I dont have time to do a proper mongareview just now, and I need to listen to it a few more times...but in the first instance you have created something truly bizarre and that really hurt my brain. You have succeeded in truly mindfucking me. I will say this much - I am not sure if I liked it, but I am even more unsure if I am supposed to. You have made the most impossible to review album EVER.

Has anyone else heard this thing?!!?

More thoughts as and when they come.

Have been thinking and listening more, but I am still no closer to being able to review this album proper.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the uncompressed mix on my big stereo so I haven't heard the full sonic whack of it yet. I did listen to both the standard and uncompressed mix in the car though, and my ears did prefer the standard one I have to admit.

I guess the easiest way to approach the album would be to not think of it as a whole when I go to write about it, because my brain will hurt and I wont know what to say.

Now, on a sonic level, I really liked it. I think your voice has come a long way, as has your ability to record it. I would still say that I prefer your instrumental/concrete/ambient stuff than the more 'traditional' music that we have here. Not that it is at all traditional, and I can still here a lot of experimental stuff though. I did particularly like your voice on the two later tracks; Hollow Pages & Another Angel. This quieter singing seems to suit your voice better I think. On the other hand, I really like your screams, particularly on the end of Meme ('I am not your god-damn animal!').

As for the non-vocal side of things, I really dug everything. Your skills as a composer improve with every track you record. You are an extremely talented songwriter as well as song recorderiser. Well done dude! I would say that the guitars are quieter in this album than some of your other stuff, but maybe that is to make room for the vocals. I suppose it is. Maybe I like guitar a bit too much though.

The concept of the album though? Fuck me, what can I say? If I didn't like the music, it would still have been a fantastic album. If I loved the music, have I missed the point of the album? Am I supposed to like it? I just don't know!!!! I am seriously concerned for your mental state after listening to this.

Am I extremely dissapointed? No, but maybe extremely confused.

Well done on making a really good bad fantastic awesome album of terrible amazing wonderful noise music art!

You should love the next full-length album after the acoustic EP I'm currently working on, then-- It's very, very Borerer. Very connected to that album, actually. Just so you're aware that I haven't completely switched over to making more accessible music-- I like to, perhaps more than my more experimental stuff, but I do enjoy switching between the two styles. The albums I work on will usually be one or the other; pretty back & forth as far as style goes.

I think maybe you should take a listen with the "ED" tracks cut out-- the overall concept wasn't meant to be so distracting, sorry! You are certainly supposed to like the album. The self-referencial negativity is just a bizarre idea born out of this strange instinct (or something) to criticize one's own works to make them invulnerable to other people doing the same. Obviously makes very little sense, but it's a weird sort of reaction I've had for a long time, and I'm sure others have had as well. It's like... bulletproofing yourself with bullets, or something. Very strange. But yes, remember what was said in Turquoise Shift about not listening to voices like "The Villain."

Don't worry Josiah, I wasn't upset at all. I apologise for seeming a bit intense in that blurb, but I am sure you will appreciate that it was a very unusual album to review. And just so you are clear, I really did like it very much, and I know I am supposed to. My head was spinning after the first few listens though. Also, credit to you for your voice acting skills. Perhaps a radio serial could be another outlet for you?

I've thought about it! I actually used to do a bit of that waaaaay back when I hung around this old voice acting forum (which I think is still around and very active now). That's partly where I honed my 'background sample clusterfuck' technique. But yes, I've actually been very, very interested in doing something like that again.

I divide them the same way, actually. The more traditional, 'accessible' music is mostly written to be catchy, driving industrial rock with rather personal lyrics, and sort of a way to develop an on-stage persona as well, since it's easily playable live. I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to look one's own definition of awesome while playing live, so I really have no shame about it! The experimental, dark ambient/concrete/Borerer-esque music may be used as interludes or intros live, but for the most part just stays as a studio thing. More of an excuse to play with a stupid amount of layers of everything at once.

Nah, I've listened to it a few times now, and I do really like it. The whole self-depreciation concept has grown on me, it's one that I can identify with very strongly.
