I guess this is the right forum. I got bored and decided a Ziltoid skin might be fun to make. It's not completely done, but if there's interest, I can post a link here later. For now a screenshot of the semi-completed skin:

Comments/constructive criticisms welcomed.

hey that's great :D
and now for some constructive criticism: you might try adding some indentations "behind" the sliders for volume, panning, and the progress bar (just make that area of the picture a bit darker and apply "inner shadow"). and maybe some "bevel and emboss" for the edges of each piece and maybe the buttons. that is, if you use photoshop. that would make the whole thing more plastic and even more "readable".

but your choice of colors is already great, and it's also cool how the picture stretches over both the player and the eq. nice work, i'm looking forward to seeing the finished skin :)

Thanks all :D

Good idea for the sliders - I didn't make a line for the volume one as I did for the balance because it would pass right over Zilly's eyes. The bevel indentations is a good idea.

I deliberately haven't "raised" the buttons, as I thought that might take away from the image - I didn't want to clutter things too much (though they do press down - ie. I did bevel the buttons for their "pressed" state, to give the feel of a proper button). Also, I like the nice, matte, pulp magazine feel of the album cover, I tried to keep that.

I can give a go and see how it looks - I am using Photoshop, so it's not a huge undertaking. Maybe I can make two versions (though the site I upload them to might not want two versions of one skin).

Right now I'm just working on the Media Library, Video, Minibrowser skins... and trying to make them look half-decent at least when they're stretched.

Looks great.

We need a similar Ziltoid skin for the forums :P

Thanks.

I could send the PSD files to whomever does that here if they want a starting point.

I'd make a PHP skin, but I no longer have a server to test it on.

Here's what's probably the finished product (until I find a bug somewhere, anyway):

that looks great! i like the oldschool tough of the library tec. with only lines. the colors are beatiful. the indentations/bumps work well, it's a lot clearer now. as for the bevel/emboss on the edges: that's just a suggestion, it' your work ;)

cool thing!

Yeah, it was a good suggestion, so I tried it out and liked it. If I didn't, I would have left as-is (as-was?).

Not bevelling/embossing the edges of the entire thing is partially laziness - that'll take forever as there are several images (and several layers within said images) to edit to get that effect.

Maybe I'll do it someday for version 2.0. But for now I'm happy - thanks for the input, hopefully I'll have a download link soon.

And thanks :D

Heh, thanks.

Dammit, my OCD is finding new things to edit/improve already. This sucks.

Thanks - I'm going to upload v. 1.1 as well - I fixed/altered a couple things.

Oh no, don't give me ideeas - I might actually try them  These things are time consuming.
