I think my friends that hate them, hate them BECAUSE they mix both very extreme and very soft, and obviously, very unusual music altogether. Its just too weird for their feeble minds.

I don't think there is anything very unusual about it at all. Some of the atmosphere on the newer albums is quite... unsettling... but that doesn't make it hard to listen to. More compelling than anything. I don't hear a lot of the "progressive" elements the fans rave about. I follow the structures of the songs and riffs and I have come to the conclusion that possibly 60% of all extreme songs follow a very basic structure that could almost be described as "extra long death metal songs".

Dan, dunno if this has been asked yet, but how exactly do you go about programming your drums? Each hit in your DAW or what?

The soundclick clips are excellent quality as usual, Dan.

Yep. I do it all in Sonar. I still have the same template I used back when I was still messing around with Cakewalk 9! It is convenient, and it works, so why change it right? Now the only thing that is different is Sonar 8 has a kick ass session drummer, so I just copy the midi file onto a session drummer track, and walla!! I am still not 100% happy with the drum sounds. My friend Craig has a bunch of cool sound fonts, and he is a genius....so I am gonna send him my midi files and he is gonna see what he can do with them. They sound ok, but for when we get to the real deal...I want them to sound as good as possible. Someday I will upgrade to DFH like the rest of the world....

Thanx Sam....BTW, IRC requires that I pay them $20 to register before I can talk to anyone...so yeah, I guess I am fucked on that deal.

Haha I use Sonar 7! I love it. I use Addictive Drums, so easy and it sounds great.

Do you program them through a midi program? I use Guitar Pro 5 to do all my drums and do the same deal with exporting a midi. But I also tab out all of my guitars so everything is very uniformed and exactly how I want it.

I don't use anything else except Sonar. just the plain jane midi that comes with it....

You tab all your guitar? You must be an insanely patient person.... :)

I tend to forget things if I dont. Plus it lets me tweak every single aspect, make everything perfect and I then know my time sigs and tempos correctly. Makes recording easier and teaching others (when applicable) easier!

But yes it is a process.

fantastic tracks. Not sure which one i liked more. IF had some great riffs and the other had great sweeps and good use of keys.

I just hope this isn't for a different project/"band" because it sounds identicle to TOP just with a higher tempo.
