Taking a bit of a risk posting this song...
I've been sitting on this one for a few months (maybe more), not really sure whether I was happy with it or not. I really like the structure of it, and I'm pretty satisfied with the lyrics, but on the other hand that's me doing vocals. I really, really don't think of myself as anything remotely approaching a capable vocalist, so that's the main reason I've been hesitating to post this for so long.
Finally just said 'fuck it' and gave in, though. So here we go... Opening the flood gates for such comments as "WTF dude?!" and "That sounds like a diseased chiwawa being hit by a snow plow."
The song's called Shaking Mind.

Lyrics:
human condition ripped into nothing
fear of the dark, fear of knowing everything
pleasure love sex reproduction fear anger sickness
no one to lean on, to hear this--
shit! have I done it again
I've got no one I can blame
but myself... myself and all of you
try and stop me now
just try and stop me now!
human life, that means next to nothing
it's all I've got, my fear of losing everything
pleasure love sex reproduction fear anger sickness
guess it's meant to mean something, mean something--
more! have I done it again
I've got no one I can blame
but myself... myself and all of you
try and stop me now
just try and stop me now!
disorder... control... disorder... no soul
human condition ripped into nothing
fear of the dark, fear of knowing everything
pleasure love sex reproduction fear anger sickness
pleasure love sex reproduction fear anger sickness
human life, that means next to nothing
it's all I've got, my fear of knowning everything
pleasure love sex reproduction fear anger sickness
pleasure love sex reproduction fear anger sickness
fear is back for more
what goes on behind closed doors?
I don't wanna know but you told me so
I only want it to leave me alone
SEX! DIVORCE!
HELL! AND WORSE!
the creation of those that mean more to you
the creation of those that mean the world to you
Okay, so it's not music or sound or anything like that. It is, however, music-related.
Did it over the weekend with a couple of sharpies at my disposal. I love that guitar, it looked like a beat up old shell of an instrument but it sounds amazing. I've been wanting to do this for awhile, ever since I did a similar (and semi-failed) kind of graffiti on my mandolin a year or two ago.
I'm still working on it, but I need to get some new sharpies with a fresh supply of ink before I can finish it. Random lines, shapes, and symbols that I basically thought looked cool.

You're the second person to comment on that USB plug. It's an attention whore, it wasn't meant to be there.

Beautiful work Josiah! I've been meaning to do something similar with my little 'toy' guitar.
An excellent hand you have.

Update:
I just need to varnish it now. Anyone know of a good finish for this kind of thing? Preferably one that won't tarnish or scratch easily or from the heat of skin, seeing as the large swirls up and behind the bridge will have my arm resting over them. I know there's some Verethane varnish around the house somewhere, but I've no clue if it's suited to the purpose or not.

Completely random experiment with tracking a ludicrous amount of guitars:

56 tracks, raw recordings. I'd love to try something like this for a full song, even if it sounds completely incomprehensible.

Sample of a song from a new album in the works. Download here:

Rhythm guitars are tracked seven times, lead guitars four times. Programmed drums recorded from an untriggered kit, lots of samples in the background-- though it's probably the fastest and least wall-of-sound-like song on the album so far. Ask Blazingmonga to testify about how dense the rest of the songs are, he's heard one other...

Alright, new song... Just a little acoustic number that I wrote awhile ago when I couldn't really sing. I've been working on my voice since then, and I think I've finally got it pretty close to being acceptable with this recording-- I'm fairly proud of it, at least.
I'm new to letting anyone hearing me sing, so I'm not really sure what to think. Let me know how it sounds, anyway. Oh, and I know the first note is rather shaky, for some reason I can never really hit the first note dead on when I start singing any given song. The rest should be fine, though.
Second take, no layering or production, just a raw recording. 2.22 megs.

Thanks!

Hey Josiah,
Was meaning to comment on your last song for some time...sorry I kept forgetting!
Anyway...well done dude, it was very good! I think this is the first time I have heard your acoustic playing and I am very impressed! The song was perhaps lacking the sheen I am used to of your other stuff, but for one take that was fantastic.
Your voice was good too, though to be fair I thought some parts worked better than others. However, as you are aiming to improve your voice I can say that I really like the sound of your singing...its perhaps just the arrangment that needs working on. It sounded sincere, and if you can sing with convinction then that is the best thing anyone can hope for.
You actually reminded me of the singer of the Dandy Warhols, 'Courtney Taylor-Taylor'.
Can we expect more of this sort of thing? I hope so!
Cheers dude,
David

New song! Perhaps the most pretentiously happy one I've ever written, but hey... I like it. I think my singing has improved quite a bit, and I'm really proud of how this came out-- the acoustic guitars, the harmony, the solo, it all sort of came out of nowhere so I'm really surprised I was able to throw this together in less than a day. (Well, recorded over the span of two days to be fair)

Okay, I won't harbor any ill will if you guys hate me for this next one.
This is a cover of a Silent Hill 2 song called Angels Thanatos-- I haven't actually played the game much, but a friend showed me the song from the soundtrack and it was too fucking cool not to cover.
...Now here's the catch... Ultimate lo-fi horribly recorded trash rock production! This song is meant to sound like a crappy, clipped, over-compressed first take of a garage rock band's demo on an old dusty vinyl being played on a turntable with half-blown speakers.
For some reason I really like how it sounds. It sounds like shit, but intentionally so, and... I dunno, maybe I'm just gaining an appreciation for stupidly lo-fi stuff.
Anyway, here's the link:

Don't blame me for any tissue damage to your ears.

EDIT:
Alright, since people on some other forums haven't been too fond of the lo-fi version of the above song, here's a version with clearer drums and redone guitars:

I am, as always, very keen to hear your music. Can you help me achieve that?
