New guitarist

Hi everyone,

I'm a new guitarist - been playing for a month or two. And I feel like I need a different guitar/amp. Funds are limited. So I was thinking I could get the Peavey raptor brand new http://www.peavey.com/products/browse.c ... tem=105560 Problem is I have no idea on the quality of this guitar. I understand it's not going to sound like a Les paul or Schecter.

Also I need suggestions on a cheapish amp.

My Current gear is - An approx. 15 year old Lotus strat knockoff (made in India) Playing acoustically it works alright. But I don't want to play acoustic. Also the amp chord has a tendency to fall out of the plug.
My amp is a Kustom crate amp. It's a piece of shit, it has a tendancy to start whistling (Could be the guitar), and chords sound awfull on it.

So I could either get a new electric/amp

Or get an acoustic until I'm more skilled.

Also for those who suggest acoustic, what do you recommend?
halp!

I'm guessing your problem is in the amp - no guitar will sound good through a crappy one. Cheapest way of having decent guitar sounds is probably POD studio GX with POD farm, if you don't mind having to use your computer to play guitar :). You can fiddle a bit with a freeware amp simulations alternatively - will require a bit of messing around with ASIO drivers, VST hosts and other computery stuff though.

(and if you really need a new guitar get a Yamaha)

Yeah I've actually considered using my computer as an amp. Thanks for the suggestions.
