Most software synths with any percussive elements have a sample of the classic 808 bus bass drum in them somewhere. Logic's built in synths do, Steinberg's Hypersonic, reFx Vanguard, etc...

If you don't have any of those and are really stuck I'll just megaupload you a sample that you can either drop into the grid and copy/paste etc or could put into a software sampler and program in MIDI

I don't have any of those. I don't really know how to use it so do you have any tips on how to put it into a song? I was basically just thinking that I would record a song and then drop it into one of the tracks.

Thanks! :guitar:

Hmm, that's different. ..

I think the best idea is to use it when you feel like it fits the song. I know it doesn't happen very often in metal stuff, but occasionally on Alien Dev would put a sub drop into emphasize the impact of a certain riff or whatever. That worked well.

In Hip-Hop they use it by default; it's part of the style. in electronic music it's pretty cool cause you get to use full frequency range by having really hgih stuff going on and really low subby stuff. makes things sound really hi-fi too when you use that much with.

So yeah I'd say plan to use it rather than goin n just whackin it in there. And when you decide to use it, cut the low end of most other elements of the song up to around 80Hz so the sub doesn't need to compete with bottom end from other stuff that doesn't really need to have any bottom end.

That's what I was planning on doing. I have a part in a song that I think a bass drop would fit nicely in. I just can't find any.

I've found that absynth (the Native Instruments VST) does a damn good job at seriously punch Sin waves :) It's punchier than its brother Massive, despite the name. I use it for sub drops, and layering under kick drums quite a bit :)
