Okay, so, two questions. I suppose the most essential one is, how hard is the transition from six to seven strings? I hopefully will be gettinga play on one in a little bit, (Tomorrow, even.) But a little fore-warning would be sweet.

Secondly, strongs. I will be dropping down into C as soon as I get it. I know what strings to use for a regular six string, but what would I need for the seventh, especially in this lowered tuning? Any advice would be grand!

Like I just said on cakebook, if it's a 25.5" you'd need a very fatty string, mine is 25.5" with an Ibanez fixed bridge, currently using 066 (thickest I could find) and it's still not good enough. Maybe, just maybe, I could try to fit a 068-070 in it... That should do it really. Yours has a floyd rose, amirite?

I have Zakk Wylde Ghs .70s on one of my 7-strings, and it's great for the Devin tuning! But it's too thick for the tuner in my other one,

so that one stays in standard tuning. Usually, I'll buy two sets of strings for one guitar, because I like heavy strings for the bottom 3,

but lighter strings for the top three. I know Ernie ball makes strings with top light-heavy bottom, but i'm pretty picky about

the particular gauge for each string. Plus, my wife works for musicains' friend, so I get alot of freebies.

What I know for sure, and I think most would agree, is light strings for low tunings blow on high. There's just not enough tension.

As far as getting used to playing a 7, if I play it exclusively for a couple of days, it feels pretty natural. But I had been playing for years

before I got one, so It felt really weird at first. If you haven't been playing long, maybe it won't be as strange? Good luck!

7 strings are really no different than 6 strings. You have an added low string and that's it. The neck isnt THAT much thicker. Now, 8 strings is a different story. I'm still getting used to mine.

Personally, best set of strings for a 7 in standard and up to about full step down is the D'Addario 10-59 set. I love those things.

And dont be shy to try other tunings. 7 strings are really great for that kind of thing.

Aye, it will go in other tunings as well, no doubt. Though it'll have a locking tremolo, so that could be annoying... But I'll have fun with it any way.

Just stuff a wood block where the gap is behind the springs, thats what I did, years ago! Or you can get a tremol-no

On a Schecter 007 blackjack I use a 75 as the lowest. Its a bass string with a big ball end that sticks out the back of the guitar (stringthru).
Its 26.5 scale length and handles the low G fairly well. On a 25.5 scale Ibanez, the low G just doesn't sound right. Its flimsy and the thickest string wouldn't fit in the tuner at first. Even still, with all the troubleshooting, 25.5 just wont cut it. The notes increase and decrease in pitch on the lowest string. ESP -LTDs have 27 inch scaled guitars and Ibanez has one as well. Schecters are at 26.5 for their 7s.

Don't know if that helps, but hope it does.

Hexcore strings have more tension as well.

My Schecter Hellraiser C-8 is 26.5 and holds an F# with a .74 damn well. Down to F it gets a little flimsy, but it still holds nicely.

Hm... I am looking at a 25.5. It is a Harley Benton, if that makes any difference. But I reeeally don't have hte money to chuck a load of money to get many 7 strings at all.

EDIT: Also saw the suggestion of getting a .80 for the seventh string, and then getting the hole cut a little if need be.

Listen to this man, agile guitars are amazing for the price, much much better than any harley benton POS you will get. Might take a while longer to be delivered but you can also get a 7 with a baritone neck which would be perfect for the tuning you are looking to go for.

A baritone 7 you say! Interesting... Might have to sell my current 7-string and sell my body for a while...

Agile's are nice! I thought about getting the 8 string for a while, but the time between purchase and arrival of one of the 8's is ridiculous.

One of the Interceptors cost around $410 including shipping to Norway (excluding the case I'm going to have to buy for it). So what, is it actually 650 dollars + shipping AND case?

It's probably a limited run or by order only guitar. Like the 8 strings they make. Plus that 650 is the full cost of the guitar, you're only paying for half of it with the deposit
