Yeah, it depends on what you'll be using it for; both the genre of music and the setting how/where you're playing. My guess is the Mesa has more character, and the Line6 more versatile sounds+effects.

Personally, I'd definitely go with the F-50, because I simply don't like modeling amps and Mesa Boogie amps are mostly awesome. :D Then again, I've never actually played either of these specific models, and the Spider Valve seems like it could be cool too.

Well i will be playing mostly metal music on it but im pretty open to any style, im still learning so cant really decide what particular tone i want. I want something that sounds crunchy with a nice smooth quality to it at the same time. So probably the mesa... im gonna try them both out in the shops so ill make my decision then

Id go with the F-50. Its very versatile and, as mentioned earlier, has a lot of character. If you want to play the heaviest of metal, youll need an overdrive pedal (I dunno, maybe just high output pickups would work too if you already have those). Other than that, you dont really need any effects for it aside from however youd want to modulate it.

Are you sure you need an effects pedal? What effects? Since you're still starting out and it sounds like you don't yet know exactly what you want you should probably go with some multi-FX box. Personally I think the BOSS ME-50 is pretty cool and could be a good choice. But first, consider whether you really need one in the first place or not...

True, but it gets expensive if you want many effects... The ME-50 is pretty good sounding compared to other multi-effects like Zoom or Behringer, imho.

A stomp box only has one effect, so you have to decide what you want. For delay, chorus, flanger and such I'd recommend those by BOSS (http://www.bossus.com/gear/subcategorie ... arentId=89). If you want a wah pedal, the Dunlop Cry Baby is the way to go... but that's just my opinion.

The Morley Bad Horsie II Wah is really good, too, but it's rather on the expensive side.

the behringer stompboxes are acctuallt very good, theyre just frowned upon for their cheapness so they wont give you much street cred :P , so hopefully you dont give a crap about that.
